The game patches itself automatically, so no worries there. If you're running windows and have graphics card drivers, you're probably fine.

Preface:

So, I've been working with someone on a game over the last while, me doing the art and him doing the code, and we've finally got it to a point where we're happy to let the public have at it; there's still bugs, but when you find them we'll try to clean them up as quickly as possible - report them in the blogs comments if you'd be so kind.

King Arthur's gold is a 2D multiplayer-only free "minecraftlike" in the broadest sense, where players fight for gold and land, building castles and digging out tunnels. Gameplay is open-ended and servers can be hosted by anyone.

The game is in the early stages (~4 weeks in now, I think) and we've just gone public!

Here's how you play:

Have at it, Metanet folk! I await your feedback :)

Downloading now. Anxious to check it out. The art looks similar: Is this a port of your Pocket Wars?

Edit: Played it. Clever little game. I do like the idea of a more varied game of soldat even if it's a bit too spartan for me to feel like I can really sink my teeth into it. A few things: You can change your character class at the other team's base. Not sure if that's on purpose or not. Alt-tabbing out of the game on Windows 7 leaves the interface shrunken beyond usability, probably because of the difference in resolutions. Uninstalling the game leaves the entire folder architecture in place also a number of files which is a major annoyance.

That does sound like a pain. I'll talk to the coder about it next time i get a chance. I've noticed the class change while at the other team's base before as well, so we'll look into it.

This isn't a port of pocket wars, its a completely new title.

sorry if this is incoherent, mobile foruming is dodgy.

This is the most fun I've had emptying an entire enemy vault and then digging through the bottom of the map to get the gold to the base with another builder in hot pursuit.

You get cookies, Geti.

Fun times definitely. Well done Geti, but I can spawn kill the other team way too easily. Also (this might just be me) but the knight seems kind of useless, except for spawn killing.

Heh, the knight is more or less the only way to take on a good team of archers in a keep, as they can't pierce your shield.

Re: Spawn killing: we're looking into ways around that, such as >1 spawn location per team, not sure of the best way to tackle it.

Hahah, glad you're enjoying it. We're pretty happy with the gold mechanic because it leaves gameplay fairly open ended.

This sounds pretty cool, well done Geti. I would play but my computer is completely fucked right now I am unable to use a single program on it (including the internet; I had to do this on a different computer because of it), so I can't.

Does this mean you removed teammates' cursors displaying? It was pretty useful for coordinating digs.

And thanks for fixing that annoying machine arrow exploit. And for making gold more golden.

Will play soon. :D

Re: cursors displaying - I guess so, but it also caused some people confusion as to which cursor was theirs. Maybe we can have an "allied" cursor that's smaller or something as a compromise.

The archer exploit was the main reason the patch was pushed so quickly, though we do enjoy quick development turnaround as well.

Good luck getting your computer fixed up Slayr

We haven't decided. I'd love it, especially with wooden structures and even more if water is implemented and pump-able -> emergency anti-firebombing setups, but we've got to consider the complexity of implementing it. We'll see, in other words :P

Well, I just tried to play this, and all I see is what I assume are the start points or places where you change classes, and nothing else. The dude walks on invisible tiles.

I can't play anymore for some reason, there are no games in the join list and it just sits around trying to find games forever. And I can't start my own. It says authentication failed.

The master server was fucked up, we replaced it and are looking into a solution that'll be able to take even more traffic - there's been between 50 and 112 people online constantly for the last day.

This is caused by odd patching of either the game or openGL - try redownloading and updating your graphics drivers.
