I think it looks really cool, but I'm too poor to buy it so I'll have to wait a little bit and earn some money. But when I can I'll definitely get it.

I might play it if my brother gets it, it doesn't look too bad. From what I can gather, this = Call of Duty/Battlefield + TF2 - Scout, Pyro, Heavy, Demo, and Sniper. Don't really see what this Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain is about though.

I got bored last night, so I bought it. So far it seems pretty fucking awesome, although I wouldn't compare it to TF2. If you do compare it, consider yourself a troll or a dumbass, or both. Anyway, the SMART thingy in it lets you parkour over everything, slide under railings, and all kinds of cool shit. I mean hell, you can jump off walls. The player customization is also pretty nice. Which reminds me, TF2 only has hats and guns. Brink has Hats, guns, tattoos, coats, shirts, pants, and masks. Anyway, so far it seems pretty nice.

Here is the, uh..., 'review' by the only site I normally trust. Apparently they didn't send review copies of the PC version, and PSN is down so they can't review the PS3 version, so that leaves the 360 version which is pretty buggy at the moment. I'm waiting for a more definitive review before I decide.
You're underrating TF2 so much it's not even funny.TF2 is so overrated its not even fucking funny....

There's just too much thats wrong with what you just said to even retort. Its a good game, but not a great game... and there's nothing special about it or even original. Its gimmicky and used as a blatant cash cow. Hats? Random item crates that you need to BUY keys with REAL money to open? The crafting is stupid, or at least the way its presented is stupid... and everyone praises it like its the god of games. Even in a fucking thread that has NOTHING to do with TF2 AT ALL it somehow manages to rear its ugly head in and demand a fucking dispenser.smartalco wrote:Here is the, uh..., 'review' by the only site I normally trust. Id rather teabag a bear trap while fucking myself with a rusty machete then play or praise that game as much as everyone else does like a god damn sheep.

1) Opinion.kai wrote:There's just too much thats wrong with what you just said to even retort. Its a good game, but not a great game... and there's nothing special about it or even original.
2) Well I guess it isn't original in that it copied a bunch of stuff from TFC.
Right. Blatant cash cow. Because I have totally spent a dime on it since I bought the Orange Box for $30 3 years ago. I bet Valve is just having blast charging for all of that stuff I didn't buy. Crafting is just a way to get items. Buying them is for people who can't fucking wait a week to find/craft it. (Or those who just want to support Valve for making an awesome game and continuing to support it nearly 4 years later, I'm not gonna plunge for a $17.50 hat, but I've thought about buying something since I've spent 500+ hours in the game)Its gimmicky and used as a blatant cash cow. Hats? Random item crates that you need to BUY keys with REAL money to open? The crafting is stupid, or at least the way its presented is stupid... and everyone praises it like its the god of games.
When other like things get compared to something over and over, it is probably because that something is really damn good. TF2 is just about the definitive class-based FPS to come out in the last several years. Any class-based game is bound to be compared to it.Even in a fucking thread that has NOTHING to do with TF2 AT ALL it somehow manages to rear its ugly head in and demand a fucking dispenser.
just sayin :/

i never asked why other people like it, i stated why I dont like it and why I think its overrated. so, i take your comment as trolling, which you do A LOT in the gaming threads i post on.Duchess of Awesome wrote:Sort of my entire point.kai wrote:Dont be childish.Duchess of Awesome wrote:Y U LIKE THIS THING I DON'T LIKE?
i was referring to games like battlefield or c&c: renegade. and whether or not you spent a dime on it doesnt change the fact that its a cash cow. just the fact that they spent time on features that cost real money .... and HATS.... is fucking sickening.smartalco wrote:2) Well I guess it isn't original in that it copied a bunch of stuff from TFC.
EDIT: so tfc came first, i found out.... but to be honest i really like tfc, just not tf2. i had fun playing it for awhile but the game just went into a direction that didnt sit well with me, and the fact that everyone loved it like it was wow has made me hate it, for logical reasons (that i stated already) as well as emotional. ive yet to play killing floor with dave or even get a fucking reply. last time i buy a game for any of you... Christmas or not.
i actually find it offensive to compare the two, id go with borderlands meets mirrors edge meets battlefield in a mmo style story.smartalco wrote:When other like things get compared to something over and over, it is probably because that something is really damn good. You don't have to buy hats, you can craft them or find them in drops. They don't affect gameplay at all (except for 5 that require you to use shitty weapon sets), and even if you did have to buy them to wear them, nobody's forcing you to buy hats (see: smartalco's post).kai wrote:just the fact that they spent time on features that cost real money .... and HATS.... is fucking sickening.
And it seems like Brink goes pretty deep on the customization, even more than TF2.
anyway imma go buy hats because i need them to play tf2just sayin :/
Edit: Anywho, this is a Brink thread, so maybe we should talk about that and move all unrelated conversation to the Team Fortress 2 thread.

New question then. Why do you care? Let other people spend money. The core mechanics have hardly changed from the games release. Sure, there are new guns that do different things, but the same emphasis on team based gameplay is still there. I'm just fine with Valve making all the fucking money they want off of people buying hats. Now if they went with a Battlefield Heroes or Battlefield Play 4 Free (fucking Dice, throwing the 4 in there) system where buying things gives you a noticeable upgrade and continually hounded on everyone for money, I'd be first to jump ship, but what they're doing now isn't offensive. Slightly off topic, but same with Portal 2, why the fuck do people care that you can buy cosmetic items that don't change the gameplay at all? Especially when Valve keeps putting out free DLC.kai wrote: and whether or not you spent a dime on it doesnt change the fact that its a cash cow. just the fact that they spent time on features that cost real money .... and HATS.... is fucking sickening.
I'd say more of Mirror's Edge meets Halo. Looked like a slower paced shooter in line with Halo, along with all the parkour stuff from ME.id go with borderlands meets mirrors edge meets battlefield in a mmo style story.

Since the excellency of my satire was lost on the intended audience, I'd just like to remind everyone that there is a right way and a wrong way to proffer your opinion in intelligent conversation. The right way is to back your opinion up with a "and this is why I feel this way" addendum. The wrong way is to insult everyone who has an opinion contrary to your own. Now, in no way is the latter inherently against any sort of forum rules but don't expect me (or, I would imagine, anyone else) to recognize even if you somehow did manage to muster a valid argument when you preemptively call people who disagree with you a bunch of "god damn sheep" or "a troll or a dumbass."
Clear?

i love how everything i say gets twisted here, like i never said you need the hats to play the game or anything else that comes from the market... the game got repetitive and boring to me. it is MY OPINION that they couldve used that energy to add USEFUL content, and thats my gripe with TF2. its BECAUSE of that, that its MY OPINION that its an overrated game. its because that they even humored the thought and then decided "YEAH! Great idea!!" is enough to turn me off. its hard to play black ops for this reason (15 buck map packs), and due to the PC matchmaking its what makes MW2 unplayable for me. and to everyone (if any) that felt attacked due to my comments, thats not what i was trying to do and im sorry if you felt that way. dont take me too seriously (if you take a jab at this statement, its in poor taste D:<), i blame the internet for dropping the entertaining value of my rant, and instead, giving it tones of aggression.
now, Tanner...
at the point of "god damn sheep" i was already sick of what i said taken out of context, and as ive stated before, ive been a "god damn sheep" as well... many times over. i fall for the hype, get excited, and get let down hard. thats why im a cynic when it comes to new games, thats why i was a cynic with brink, and thats why im pissed off at TF2.
first you try to mimic what i said making look like a drooling retard, then you expand the vocabulary in your post at an overkill level.... as if to, again, make a subtle point. if your not trying to get a rise then your carefully insulting in a way that isnt obvious: which is flaming.
maybe if the response(s) didnt give off that butt-hurt impression due to my comments we would have an intelligent debate, but theres really nothing to debate is there? you have your views, i have mine. for what its worth, i regret using as many obscenities as i did but mocking me with "Y U LIKE THIS THING I DON'T LIKE?" is insulting, not to mention non sequitur.
ive tried to end this by POINTING OUT this isnt an appropriate thread to be talking about TF2 at all anyways, maybe if we were actually comparing game mechanics then yeah, sure, totally the right place to do it. other then that, dont get butt-hurt because i point out that 50% of TF2's potential game quality has been replaced with hats and an ATM.... IMO.
as for attacking, i never attacked anyone... maybe you feel attacked because i made a point somewhere? oh and i never proffered anything, nor expected i needed to back up anything as i never wanted to be drug this far into this conversation.
and theres nothing excellent about your satire, i find you full of yourself with little to no humility when you say things like this. and while i try to get along with you (i feel at times more then i should) you make pokes at me, like this. maybe i dont feel like i need to improve anything about what i say, or how i say things (this doesn't include owning up to mistakes in the context, which i strive to do if one is discovered / pointed out to me, as i did with my statement that TF2 wasnt original, which is 50 percent true due to TFC being the second original and Starsiege: Tribes being the first class based shooter). rather then constructive criticism laced with humor, i see an ego being stretched and an insult being hurled. at least thats how i perceive it and thats how ive always perceived it. if you feel attacked, i apologize for nothing as i feel the same way.
maybe if your satire is all you have to reply, then id rather you didnt reply at all.... or at least not to me.
Clear? I hope so, because ive been trying to get this hint across to you for over a couple years now.

ill use a point you made to answer that:smartalco wrote:New question then. Why do you care?
with the way things are going, with this pattern im seeing, its only a matter of time. it isnt just TF2, gaming as a whole is leaning towards this pay-to-play / RL money for items or DLC. i care because this direction as a whole bothers me, and im mad because no one seems to care. i can see how a free to play and free to download mmo would sell items like bigger inv or mounts for real money, or how a struggling game would do such to stay afloat... but its unnecessary in this case and a waste of time money and effort in my opinion. Now if they went with a Battlefield Heroes or Battlefield Play 4 Free (fucking Dice, throwing the 4 in there) system where buying things gives you a noticeable upgrade and continually hounded on everyone for money, I'd be first to jump ship, but what they're doing now isn't offensive.
if thats not a reason to care as much as i do then idk what to tell you :/
right but mine were generalized, yours (i dont think i could call them obscenities, just insults) were specific. targeted, even. whether or not this was your intention, its how its always felt when you decide to use your "satire". again, i feel like im putting to much effort in explaining this, as i feel you dont give two flying fucks how i feel about anything and the sooner i peace outta this forum the better.Tanner wrote:It's not, like I said, necessarily a problem but when you do it, I reserve the right to do it back.
maybe if we havnt already both been banned for butting heads in the past i wouldnt take such offense. maybe if it was, LF or Snuggs or LV, id just laugh and let it slide. but because its you, its not funny, its not satire, its not even a valid point: its an insult. carefully placed and worded as always. but again, thats how it felt, maybe not necessarily the desired effect you wanted
so let me make it simple, i dont appreciate your satire. at all.

Should we move this thread to General Discussion? 8 of 21 posts have been about Brink. The rest are just kai trying to explain that he has an unfavourable opinion of a game Duchess likes and Duchess being satirical - apparently - about it. Either way, back to Brink: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT0vOEjF-ig here's a video focusing on how the SMART system works. It shows that you can choose whether to slide under or mantle an obstacle by looking down or up, respectively.

naw i just plain think he's an asshole, and i was explaining to smartalco and izzy and whoever else that didnt reply in an asshole way like tanner, as i couldnt care less what tanner thinks. and if no one fucking NOTICED i tried changing the topic BACK to brink at the start.
as for brink, just unlocked the minigun :D that thing is BADASS. one problem with the game so far tho: buggy as all hell. for some reason the game sound cuts out during coop campaign, and the only way to fix that is to back out. not to mention LAAAAG. like i cant tell if it was because of the time last night and it was a dedicated server in mexico, or the matchmaking really blows chunks (MATCHMAKING?!!? ON PC!?!?!?!? AGAAAAAIN!?!?!?) but i do know they need to patch this :/
...why isnt this titled brink?
