TES V: Skyrim Announced

So...I don't know how many other people here are TES fans, but personally I have loved both Morrowind and Oblivion. So, when watching the VGAs on Spike a while ago, I was quite interested/excited by the announcement by Bethesda that the next game in the series is coming, albeit in just under a year.

Here's the announcement trailer, and here is the official Elder Scrolls site.

It's also been announced that the graphics engine is all new, "built internally"...which intrigues me.

Thoughts, if any?

I did not like Morrowind. I am the select few who thinks Oblivion is tons better than its former.

Here's to hoping animations are swell in Skyrim!

1) I don't like cinematic trailers much in the first place because they tell you almost nothing about the actual game
2) This wasn't even good as far as cinematic trailers go.
3) I'll still want it because, you know, it's TES.

Oblivion was optimized like shit and ran terrible on everything.

Morrowind was (and still is) hard to get in to and has a horrible combat system compared to oblivion. It does everything else better though (Taking stats to 1000 FTW).

I don't know about that. Yes they improved the combat system in Oblivion, but I never really got in to the game like I did Morrowind. (Technically, I never beat either game, but I probably put over 150 hours in Morrowind on a few different characters compared to about 15 in Oblivion). Morrowind had a certain sense of awe and wonder that I never really found in Oblivion.

Re: Skyrim. They're apparently overhauling a lot of the TES mechanics and making use of a new engine (or a really heavily modified Gamebryo engine, depending on your source), including a lot of work in making the character models and faces not look like ass.

Info and scans from the Game Informer article

I hope so--that was one of the things that bugged me horribly about oblivion.

One of my fondest memories is seeing one imperial guard glance an arrow off another. They both immediately decided to fight to the death. In almost perfect sync, they walked towards each other, drawing arrows at the exact same time and firing at the exact same time. Then, they both let off the same cry, but very slightly out of phase; I heard "WHY-WHY WON'T-WON'T YOU-YOU DIE-DIE!!"

oblivion was incredibly realistic in some things and goddamn horribly unrealistic in others. i hope they do something about that

so i couldnt think of a better place then here to put this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAEP3VtKCZc

i have a modded sky castle thats conveniently over a river, so after a few sky dives i notice a guard spazzing out on the beachhead. i think to myself, "i wonder if i cant pull off a bow shot on the way down.

nailed it, first try.
