I think that we're all gamers, but still.
I'd say that I'm fairly hardcore. The reason I allowed for 2 votes, is so that people who don't know what they are can... pick multiple options... Anyway, are you?

Very caual. I only play videogames to releive stress, most of the time.
I play N to let stuff out of me. I make maps to get my mind off things.

Used to be pretty into gaming, now I'd only play a couple of hours of anything a week. If that.

I chose the last two options, as, I'm a REALLY hardcore gamer. I've stayed up for 72 hours playing one game, and I will, so long as I don't die from sleep deprivation, get my characters to any level on any RPG. heck, on Too Human, I got my guy to level 50 in 2 days.. (50 being the max).

I've always believed that "hardcore" meant you played (possibly) violent, action-packed, and exciting video games virtually every day for many, many hours. This isn't always the case; someone on another forum I go to occasionally recently suggested that people who play very obscure, underrated, unknown, or imported games not normally found anywhere else are actually "hardcore" gamers. He also stated that people who play the games like Gears of War, UT3, Halo, GTA IV, MGS 4, or maybe even Age of Empires or WoW, etc. are not "hardcore" because they're very mainstream games. Huge perspective there, to be honest.
I don't want to be defined as a casual gamer but I just don't have the resources to be a hardcore gamer, which is why I try my hand at freeware games or play my older games on my PS2 on higher difficulty levels or attempt to get achievements I couldn't get earlier (SSX 3, for example). I guess I'm in the middle.

Newfrag is my PSN name. Add me as a friend so we can play and chat, just make sure to tell me you're from these forums or else I'll think you're trying to molest me.

Yeah, that's basically me, though I'm always trying to get those resources. And what your friend said there is right. "Hardcore" not meaning the genre, but the amount of time spent played. And about how most mainstream games aren't exactly hardcore, since... well... they're mainstream. Though, if you do what Snugs does, pull an all nighter to get that last Face-camo or find that final skull, then you're usually considered "hardcore".Twistkill wrote:I've always believed that "hardcore" meant you played (possibly) violent, action-packed, and exciting video games virtually every day for many, many hours. True hardcore gamer
A hardcore gamer means someone who plays games pretty much non-stop not someone who plays non-mainstream games. That would be an underground type gamer.

I once played a game for pretty much 2 days straight, only taking breaks for eating and sleeping. But that's not hardcore enough to be hardcore. But now I can't even afford to play any new games that I want to buy.
Meh. Fairly Casual.

I'd say casual - I'd probably be more of a hardcore gamer if I had more time, though.

I am indeed a fairly hardcore gamer, and I go about it better then those self-sabotaging addicts. You see you can't be so devoted to gaming that it becomes more important than your life because then you will die off rather quickly and you will have lived a short life of interactive entertainment. I make sure that I supply myself with enough resources so I can live to game another day. Better yet, use the time you are not gaming to develop strategies in your mind and determine what other video games you will purchase.

It seems to me that this question is about the magnitude of your gaming habits, not your selection.Twistkill wrote:I've always believed that "hardcore" meant you played (possibly) violent, action-packed, and exciting video games virtually every day for many, many hours. Anyway, I picked Casual. Most of my free time is spent with miscellaneous online dickery, but I do play games semi-frequently when I'm bored. I keep my PSP around so I can play Crisis Core when there's nothing better to do outside the home, and N+ while I shit.

I've always believed that a hardcore gamer plays to get to the max, and that casual gamers play to relieve stress and boredom. Also, I could mention the whole indie/underground gaming that hardcore gamers do.
Anyways, I'm both casual and hardcore at times; I play Guitar Hero when I'm bored, for instance, but I try to five star every song when I play. So I picked both casual and semi-hardcore.

Casual, bordering on fairly hardcore because I'm sorta hardcore about certain games, like N. Not for highscores, but I play and mapmake a /lot/. Pokemon too, in a way. I never catch 'em all, but I get into the strategy and raising my fave Pokes to kick some tail. I ShoddyBattled too until it stopped working on my laptop.
Long story short, when I have the time, I can barely border on fairly harcore, so I picked both casual and fairly hardcore. Meh.

We're all pretty casual gamers to some extent.
I did spent the better of the past two and a half years playing N. But I've basically stopped this year because of school. But since it's the holidays, I've been spending a couple of hours a day playing.

Casual. I play a game for a few days pretty much non-stop, then put it down for a number of months. Then pick it back up again, become good at it, and after that play occasionally.

I used to be fairly hardcore just about half a year ago.
Yet, due to cirucumstances ,i.e. school and work, I am only a fairly casual gamer now. I get in about 4 to 5 hours a week. Not much.

I'm casually h-core.
Only when I wanna be, and only when I'm free.
So I think the definition of my gaming style would be a weekend warrior, with a few minutes here and there.

hardcore, but mostly freeware. I got spore recently, and that is, in fact, the best game ever, but my computer fails too much to play the space stage, so I've put that on hold until I get a new one.

Casual. I have a stack of games, don't get me wrong, but I don't play them constantly. N is my main game. Maybe TMU. And they're only when I have free moments.

I picked casual. I scarcely play games where I do not intend to (a) socialize with other people playing the same game or (b) use the game as inspiration for a design of my own.
