Yes.

I don't really know if mtg is really popular around here, but here's an awesome application, that has all of the card sets, and lets you play online on any OS, for free.

Here's how to get started.

1. Download the files from the website, as well as the attached file, the default deck.
2. Make a copy of the test.decks.html, and rename it [your username].decks.html .
3. Open the ww.jar file. You should get a screen like this.
4. Enter your username, email, and check the "new user" box.
5. You should get an email with your password in less than 5 minutes.
6. You can now log in, and you can change your password. Go to the Laboratory window and start building your deck!

Here's the file, because the board doesn't like html. It's just a rapidshare link, though, so if someone can find a permanent host, I would appreciate it.

Are they even allowed to do this? I mean there is an official MTG online client.

I just use MWS and MWSPlay. is that what you're talking about, or is this something different? all i see on the website are all the card bases.

Edit: so i checked out that site and realized you're talking about somethign totally different. Also, i should have realized MWS is only for XP and vista. sorry!

I want M:tG to be more popular - AF and Slaps have been dicking around with Apprentice and Octagon lately; Dave plays. Jig plays a little. maximo totally plays. I've played for the past fourteen years or so and I had a short stint as a DCI judge - So if there are ever any rulings questions, I can answer them pretty well. Also, if anyone needs deck advice, or just wants to discuss Magic in general, I've spent my entire life (quite literally) theorizing about Magic; If ever you need to know if there's a card that does X or what happens when you have both a Trinisphere and a Goblin Warchief in play, ask away.

So anyway, I'ma look into this, I also have MODO, but I'm not sure what cards I still have there. So, MODO, Appr, Octagon, or this - I'm always up for a game, and a discussion about Magic Theory.

Also, Palemoon - Love your sig.

What a coincidence. I've been trying to bring M:TG back. the only problem is, I it's been so long, I forgot a lot of the rules.

Ah well.

I have to look into this. I've been wondering about online M:TG for a while.

i'm glad you get it! :D

also-- i have a magic question and i think you can answer it! This also goes for anybody else who knows the rules a little.
woohoo here we go!

Zivilyn plays two Pariah. one on his creature, and one on mine.

what happens when Zivilyn takes damage? we spent a long time thinking about it, and in the end we decided he can choose which Pariah'd creature takes the damage. Is this correct?

That is indeed correct.

Whenever two discordant replacement effects both try to modify damage (Or any event for that matter), the player who controls the effects gets to choose the order in which to apply them. In this instance, since Pariah is a replacement effect, when two are in play, Zivilyn gets to choose which creature takes the damage, and that creature takes all of that damage.

this is more of a clarification.

Say a 2/2 attacks another 2/2. Both of them are destroyed right? So if a 2/1 attacks a 1/2 is it the same effect? And unless altered by a cards ability, an attacking creature is destroyed if it's defense is equal to or less than the defending creatures attack; while if the defending creature's attack is less than the attacking creatures defense, then nothing happens, right?

it's been a long time. i feel kinda stupid poting this.

Interesting that this should come up. My friends and I have restarted playing magic this year.

Also, I do have a rules question which kablizzy or someone else may be able to answer. If I have a mighty emergence in play and I drop a Force of Savagery, does the Force of Savagery live? My friends said no, but I wanted to double check. I love Force of Savagery, but...I don't have anything to play it with cuase it's so damn picky.

I'm pretty sure that "whenever... you may." is a triggered ability and since state-based effects are checked whenever you receive priority it will be sent to the graveyard before the ability resolves. If it were "creatures you control come into play with an additional +1/+1," it would survive. (Kablizzy, correct me if I'm wrong.)

No worries. Here's how combat damage works. Creatures deal damage equal to their power to whatever their target is (Defending creature, Player), at the same time as other creatures. So, yes. A 2/2 will kill another 2/2, and both will die the same way as a 2/1 will kill an X/2.

Unfortunately, it won't live. When Force of Savagery comes into play, it dies due to having 0 toughness as a state-based effect. The effect on Mighty Emergence is a triggered effect, and goes onto the stack as the creature comes into play. In-between the Force of Savagery coming into play and the Mighty Emergence resolving, priority passes, and state-based effects are checked, and the Force of Savagery dies. Afterwards, since the Mighty Emergence no longer has a target, the effect fizzles. Now, Glorious Anthem would work with Force of Savagery, along with any constant effects (Such as Veteran Armorer).

Also, Force of Savagery link.

Alright thanks. :)

Heh, the other day we were playing and it kinda ended like this:

"I attack you"
"I block with this."
"... um... so... who dies?
"I.... don't know"

So thanks again.

Mmhmm. I was thinking about making a thread just for magic advice and rulings. I might end up doing that.

Anyway, once I get some free time, I'll be doing this.

Dude, I so wish I'd started playing 14 years ago. (which would have been hard since I'd be three) Fatal Frenzy is the best I can get my hands on now. We should start a proper mtg thread. Like, deck lists and combos and stuff.

I just found something great in my deck.

There are three cards in my deck that are required. The first is gleancrawler. It'a ability is that at the end of turn, any of my create cards put it into the graveyard that turn go back to my hand. Now if i use a Golgari Rotwurm to sacrifice a golgari Brownscale, I gain 3 life, deal 1 damage to the opponent, and get my card back after. Rotwurm's abilit: Black mana, sacrafice a creature: target player loses 1 life. Brownscale ability: When Golgari Brownscale is put into your hand from your graveyard, you gain 2 life.

i used that before and owned that match. i then lost the next one because I didn't get any mana XD

Just a quick question. If I have a creature with shroud, and another card has an effect like "all other creatures get +1/+1", will it affect the creature with shroud?

yes. Shroud only prevents the creature from being targeted. Big effect cards like "all creatures get..." or "destroy all creatures" will still effect the creature with shroud.

It's also true with things like protection white which won't prevent wrath of god the difference being that protection from red would prevent pyroclasm.
