Why did this die? Video game music is surprisingly entertaining to listen to.

My friend suggested Final Fantasy music the other day, and so I was listening to that for a bit when I saw this in the related videos. Epic.

The entire Legend of Zelda series hands down. It's got some of the best game music i've ever heard, and even the plinky tunes on the ocarina are awesome. These are my favouries:

Legend of Zelda - Overworld Theme (Mario Paint Remix)
Legend of Zelda - Overworld Theme (Orchestra)
Legend of Zelda Parody
Ocarina of Time - Hyrule Field
Ocarina of Time - Ocarina Song Compilation
Ocarina of Time - Zelda's Theme
Ocarina of Time - Lost Woods
Ocarina of Time - Forest Temple
Twilight Princess - Zant
Twilight Princess - City in the Sky
Twlight Princess - Stallord: Twilit Fossil
Twilight Princess - Sacred Grove
Majora's Mask - Stone Tower Temple
Majora's Mask - Sonata of Awakening
Majora's Mask - Elegy of Emptyness
Majora's Mask - New Wave Bossa Nova
Majora's Mask - Termina Field

The Banjo Kazooie series also has great music, but it's a different kind to Zelda. It's not serious, dramatic music, it's lighthearted, fun music. I dont have links right now, but my favs are:

Clankers Cavern
Bubblegloop Swamp
Mad Monster Mansion (Outside the Mansion)
Final Fight (Bajo Kazooie)
Hailfire Peaks (Fire and Ice Sides)
Chilli Billi and Chilly Willy (Boss Fight)
Cloud Cuckooland
Terrydactyland
Grunty Industries (Outside the Factory)
Lord Woo Fak Fak (Boss Fight)
Witchyworld
Mr Patch (Boss Fight)
Image

Ice Climbers are awesome. Deal with it.

I wholeheartedly second Slappy and Condog here, except that he forgot to list Gerudo Valley. I'll link that here since he forgot it.

You can't argue with Zelda, especially Twilight Princess. Despite the fact it's all MIDI, it's still mindblowingly good (if "mindblowingly" is a word...).

Then again, Project Chaos is one of my favourite albums, especially the songs with Snappleman. For anybody who doesn't know, Project Chaos is an OC remix album of the songs from Sonic 3 and Knuckles, of which some of the songs, such as Scrambled Eggman and Malicious Fingers are just amazing.

Ace Combat 6 has some of the most awesome Orchestral music in my opinion - especially "The Liberation of Gracemeria".

And any rock remix of Megaman 2's Wily Stage 1, or Okkusenmann to many people. That song kicks theoretical ass (cause, you know, a song can't literally kick asses).

Err, no official Zelda music was ever MIDI. I don't know what you're talking about.

I saw Condog's post before and decided to reminisce a bit, and I wholeheartedly agree about Banjo-Kazooie. I'd have to add Rusty Bucket Bay, Freezeezy Peak, Click Clock Wood (Spring), Treasure Trove Cove, and Gobi's Valley to that list, although Clanker's Cavern is far and away the best tune there, in my opinion.

Ha, in retrospect, that's almost all the stages. I guess that's a testament to how awesome the Banjo-Kazooie soundtrack is.

Unfortunately, I never owned Banjo-Tooie. :(

Err, no official Zelda music was ever MIDI. I don't know what you're talking about.
I read somewhere a while back that people were moaning about Twilight Prrincess' Soundtrack due to the fact that Nintendo were still using MIDI files for the soundtrack.

Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0KdxRKr ... re=related

The IGN review. Right at the end, around the 7:50 - 8:00 mark, they complain about the fact that a lot of the songs in Twilight Princess being MIDI.

That's true, but that HASN'T been true for any other game in the series. When it came to compose music for the trailer, the main composer for Zelda felt extremely rushed, and ultimately, they decided against full composition like they did for Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time, or Wind Waker.

You read my mind. It was by far my favourite music, possibly since it was one of my first games for Xbox? No, it simply was that good.

Total Annihilation OST. Or just any game music done by Jeremy Soule. Small sample of games he did the soundtrack to:

Baldur's Gate
Company of Heroes
Dungeon Siege I / II
Morrowind & Oblivion
(all) Guild Wars
Icewind Dale
Neverwinter Nights I / II
Prey
Knights of the Old Republic I / II
Supreme Commander
Dawn of War.

Yeh, he's pretty good.

Wow, that's really nice. It's got me bouncing around the related videos, listening to more tunes.

There's a topic on this already, actually, and Legend of Zelda has been put forward a few times. Obviously, it's with good reason. Excellent music all over the place in those games. That thread has some other great music on it too. Worth a look/listen.
