Why the hell is the first gym in Pokemon Yellow rock-themed?

Talk about gaming culture and other aspects of PC and console games and systems.

Uh, because the first gym in Pokemon's Red and Blue (and Green - Hi, Japan! and Japanese Blue for that matter...) was also rock-themed? Catch a Mankey or raise a Butterfree or something. ;)

All I can say is that Caterpie absolutely blows, and I'm not happy right now.

Catch a Metapod, then a spare pikachu, a weedle, and a rattata. YOU'RE SET.

You guys are fools.

Pokemon Yellow was meant to give you the experience of playing the show you watched every Saturday. That's why you fight Brock first, just like the series.

Yeah, that and it followed the same pattern as RBG. Get a Mankey or a Butterfree (Confusion) and you're done, just hope he doesn't OHKO Butterfree with a rock throw.

Also, I beat him on my first run with a Lvl 5 Pidgey spamming Tackle. Yes I got lucky. Yes Pidgey went up by 4 levels.

You're the fool. I used to watch that show -every- day.

That just means you watched it later when it was syndicated, young'n.

Come on, it's not that hard. Nidoran/Mankey will get the job done. And besides, the next gym is incredibly easy to make up for it.

=P
I just was flipping channels and saw that Ash douchebag battling someone and losing.
Didn't he beat the original game? How the hell is he still weak?
Is it like some alternate dimension or what?

That's my point; all of the other Pokemon games were "routed" extremely well--the natural progression of your team coincides with the difficulty of the gyms. You shouldn't have to waste exp. and time on the first gym because your starter doesn't match up well.

And, Slappy, go shove your Canadian TV up your ass. :P

Try fighting Blaine and telling me that the Gyms got progressively more difficult. Also, real trainers don't even use their starters. ;)

I burned through the first Gym with a disobedient pikachu. Excessive grinding ftw!
Charmander with ember also pwns (If the enemy geodude happens to spam harden for the whole fight)
Dragon Cave Dragunz. It only takes 2 seconds!

How can it be disobedient? If it's your own pokemon, no matter if you have the badges or not, it should obey you...

Are you kidding me? It evolves at level 7 and again at level 10. I think you have that kind of time.

It's pikachu. Didn't you ever watch the show?
Anyways, it's Yellow Version. It had frickin' walking pokemon that stalked you.

Erm... Yes. And the show relates to the mechanics of the game... How, exactly?

Any pokemon whose OT is the player (Starters, caught pokemon, etc) will automatically obey the player, even if their level is over the badge requirements. Only traded pokemon will disobey you if you haven't got the correct badges.

It's sort of a cheating-prevention method: it makes you play through the game instead of trading super-powered pokemon to completely thrash all the trainers and gyms.

I had a traded charmander :p
In fact, to obtain all the starters, i had my friends trade and restart their games several times over.

I prefer G/S/C because it's possible to get all 3 starters without trading, which is great for loners like me :D

Training caterpie on yellow is annoying as hell, plus Butterfree is weak to rock when you get it; I much preferred just training nidoran(male) until it learnt double kick. Plus, Nidoking is much more useful later in the game than Butterfree (Earthquake, Rock Slide, Double Kick /and/ Surf, anyone?)
