With the confirmed North American release date of March 14th, a European release date of March 26th, and the game due to come out during the same month in Australia as well, I wondered what people think about the two "new" Pokemon games coming from the Land of the Rising Sun. Best Games Yet or Pointless Remakes?

Personally, I'm pretty excited about these. From what I've seen posted on Serebii.net, they look brilliant - more enhancements, new features, many more Legendary Pokemon, and another chance to square off with Red.

It seems that, while remakes of Gold and Silver, many of the additions found in Crystal will be staying. Suicune is not roaming like Entei and Rikou, but rather can be found in specific places, before you can battle and catch it. Extremespeed Dratini remains in the Dragon's Den, if you answer the given questions correctly.

Up to three Starter Pokemon can be obtained in the game - you can choose one Kanto starter and one Hoenn starter after defeating Red.

I really want Heart Gold, personally. Anyone else have their thoughts?

I've been anticipating Soul Silver for months. It's gonna be awesome to finally play it in March.

I think it's meant to be a pun on the phrase "Heart of Gold".

I had Gold when I was younger (until it disappeared, along with my GBC). I'm looking forward to, in a sense, playing it again.

Yeah, my allegiances lie with gold, although I loaned my DS to my step-mom and will have to get it back.

You can get both Ho-oh and Lugia in both games. However, when you can get them (and subsequently, at what levels) is what changes:

Heart Gold
Ho-oh obtainable after defeating Rockets at the Radio tower, then a battle with the revamped Kimono Girls (Winston Family style, if you've played Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald), Level 45 (I think. It might be 40.)
Lugia obtainable after speaking to a person in Pewter City, Level 70.

Soul Silver
Pretty much the opposite.

Ho-Oh is such a fucked up bird. Lugia looks like every Pokemon designed since; soft edges and two colors. Ho-oh was so fucked! It was great!

I don't know why anyone would have Ho-Oh or Lugia in their max'd party. I just prefer Ho-oh to Lugia, looks, style, etc.

I like this comment on that page:

ebwandsc00ting (11 months ago):

Yes, Ho-oh isnt uber with stealth rock up, 3 layers of spikes up, leech seeded, sand storm in play, and toxic spikes on the field, with gravity in affect.
Isn't that alittle bit circumstantial?

Erm... In Gold, you get a Level 70 Lugia. So, we don't exactly lose out.

Okay, from what I've heard, it loses Aeroblast, and you need to re-learn it with a move tutor. But that isn't that bad.

I was talking about how it got pwnd so easy.

Also, I can has Soul Silver?

After playing it for a while, so far I've got up to Cherrygrove and recieved the Running Shoes, I'm liking how you can toggle them on and off so you don't have to hold B all the time. A very good addition.

Liking the new touch controls as well, nicer interface than DPPt.

The thing that always bugged me about DPPt was how often I had to put away my stylus and get it out again. I love the idea of the touch screen battles, but I would do things a bit differently, I think. Like, maybe not having to use the abxy buttons at all, having everything on the touchscreen? I don't know.

Yeah there is, just search the web ;) It isn't fully translated but it's getting there.

Most of the controls can be used through the touch screen now if you prefer. There is a dedicated button for what the A button does and you get a selection for Y as well, your menu is all there as well.

Word of warning, you cannot stall Whitney's Miltank with a Gastly, it has Scrappy, meaning it essentially has permanent Foresight/Odor Sleuth.

Great.

EDIT: And it has a Lum Berry.

Tactic right here. Bring out something bulky with a speed lowering move (Croconaw), use that move, if not twice if you can. Then switch to something with Paralysis and an attack lowering move (Flaaffy) and spam the attack lowering move. Then switch to something like Gastly and use Curse. Poison instead of Paralysis works well. Burn even better (Because it lowers attack).

I don't mean to get illegal here, so without asking for LINKS or the NAME of such a thing, I will tippy-toe to the subject; Are there functioning DS emulators?

But just buying a DS and the games will work best. The're mostly for developers and the others are crap.
I'm not telling you to, but using a flash-cart if you don't want to buy the games and just loading the game onto it. But don't do that, because that's illegal.

...But it beats waiting for the English version to be released. =P

I lack the possession of a flash-cart, which will make me want to buy a solid copy of the game. I want to be able to trade and fight against friends and family. =D
