Mine has to be the two witches in "LoZ: Ocarina of Time". plain awesome.

Dark Lord: Ganondorf from Twilight Princess.

The one-on-one swordfight was epic as hell. =D

Having very recently beaten Fallout 3, I have a special place in my heart for Colonel Autumn. Primarily it's because he never stands a chance, and I think just about everyone knows it. Not a single snowball's fucking chance.
I actually replayed the final combat sequence multiple times.
First time 'round, I talked him out of fighting me. 100 Speech and 10 Charisma do wonders gave a 100% chance of success. I don't think I needed anywhere near as high ranks in any of those stats to get a decent percentage, though.
Second time, I put a mini-nuke on the stairs. That's game over for Autumn and his goons in a fraction of a second, I only lose an arm, and Sentinel Lyons dies outright but gets back up five seconds later because she's invulnerable.
Third time around, I fed him the Terrible Shotgun point-blank in the face, and then, with the help of Grim Reaper's Sprint, did the same in very short order to his goons.
As I got a better feel for his competence, I did the final battle a few more times. I lost count of the number of attempts, but the last victory was won by beating the tar out of him with my 19 skill in Unarmed (no weapons, perks, or equipment related to unarmed combat, although I had 9 Strength) while wearing nothing but Naughty Nightwear. Sure, I used a dozen stimpacks or so, but I had like 400 of them. The Lone Wanderer, Scourge of Humanity, shows up to the apocalyptic battle for the fate of mankind in a leopard-spotted nightdress, and paints the cold stone floors of the Jefferson Memorial with the bloody, pulverized shards of Colonel Autumn's skull with her bare hands. Now that's an epic for ya.
Ah, Colonel Autumn. Thank you for making me feel better about myself in sucking by comparison.

The giant fish boss from the Water Temple in LZ:MM. I think the awesome level just rubs off on the boss and make him seem a it more awesomer.

Yami, the Dark King from Okami was a really badass final boss. He's got like five different iterations he goes through like any self-respecting final boss should, and in the end you think he's invulnerable but you make the sun rise and beat him up in a satisfyingly epic fashion.

Plus he looks awesome.

EDIT:

Special Mention to Vitreous and Helmasaur King, but Trinexx was the best boss in A Link to the Past, and was probably harder than Ganon anyways.

Haha, not me! The first time I got up to this boss, I was way too young to come close to beating it. It annoyed me so much, especially since I always will consider that the most annoying dungeon in the game as well. Now its not hard, just not my fav.

He does have a really cool name though ^^

Oooh, props for coolest thread of the week!

This isn't so tough: Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid.

The first time I walked into his chamber and he told me to place my controller on the ground in order for him to demonstrate his power and the dual-shock rumble pack activated, I was in awe of this mastery of forth wall denial that didn't remove me from the game, but deeply enhanced my experience. I've never known anything quite like it.

The battle itself is just as amazing, with
the solution

plugging your controller into port 2 to negate Mantis' ability to predict your movement

being one the the smartest devices in gaming history.

Special mentions to:

Ruby Weapon from FFVII and every single Colossus in Shadow of the ...

Call me a sucker for difficulty, but I preferred the Liquid Snake battle (Metal Gear/Fist Fight/Gun Race)

The boxing lady-bug from Croc. I'm sure there were other good bosses in that game but that's the only one I remember.

Stop mentioning Bongo Bongo. That dude was a royal pain in the ass. Anyone who says he enjoyed that battle is a liar.

Pretty much any boss where you can attack and take out different parts of them (For instance taking out the weapons on a gunship boss or something)

Credit to Dr.Robotnik's first machine in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Bob the Evil Goldfish from Earthworm Jim 2 for being the most pathetic bosses ever.

Bongo Bongo was so awesomely fun though, Suki. It took a couple of tries, but beating him was worth it.

Xemnas or whatever his name was from KH:II was pretty intense. Quadraxis qwned so hard, plus had multiple forms. Wart was sorta funny, as you choke him with veggies to kill him. Crocomire came back from the fucking dead to... do something, but ended collapsing and blowing up a wall. Spider Gaurdian had a nice tactical feel, and was hard as fuck to kill properly. Thardus used the heat visor excellently. That thing in the volacano from TLoZ:WW was kinda fun, and had a good soundtrack.

That's about all the notable ones. =/

If anyone's ever played Link's Awakening, the final boss is not only fun but makes for a nice plotline and absolutely beautiful ending.

As far as the most fun to beat, i liked that reanimated skeleton thing from the desert temple place in Twilight Princess. Hell, I love anything that has to do with the spinner, and I wish it had been incorporated more.

I agree with Link's Awakening. That makes two awards for Link's Awakening: Best video game boss and most irritating owl.

Maybe it's that I was doing it on an emulator. Quickness and precision do not come readily from a joystick emulated by arrow keys.
