I started playing it for the first time since when it first came out - that means I am being slapped in the face by the awesomeness that is all the updates done to it. I'm incredibly impressed by how meticulously balanced all the new content is, as I can imagine introducing new gameplay after they managed to balance it originally was extremely hard.

(If anyone wants a game, well i'm UTC and you should have me on steam, if not, i'm leader of the metanet steam group so add me :))

I was having an interesting discussion with a friend about how TF2 has stolen lots of CSS players, and L4D TF2 players. We then moved onto talking about TF2 vs L4D. I said that L4D has unbeatable 4 player co-op, but unless it's people you know then it's just not as fun as TF2 full stop. TF2 has the unique classes and maps too. So in the end I couldn't decide which was more fun :(

What do you guys think?

:D

I've played too much TF2 for my own good. It's the first FPS I've really enjoyed.

Any favorite maps? Mine are Goldrush and Steel.

The problem I have with L4D that I don't find it that fun unless I'm playing with friends (the 8-player versus games we have while everyone is on Vent are awesome). This isn't the case for me with TF2, and I'm not exactly sure why.

This is possibly my favourite online game of all time, definitely favourite online FPS at the very least.

I've only just upgraded my gaming machine (my video card burnt out a few months back), but I'll be getting active again as soon as steam finishes DLing my archive.

My steam user is: astheoceansblue, feel free to add.

On TF2 vs L4D: L4D is incredibly fun if you are with people you know, but going into pub games leads to someone in your group being a dick more often then not, TF2 is fun almost all the time

I like TF2 more than L4D, but I think both are great games. Recently, I've only been playing L4D with strangers, so I don't know what you guys are talking about; public games can be just as fun.

Favorite classes? I like pyro best although soldier has grown on me in the last week.

I logged similar in my first week. Then my graphics card died, and I've only just started getting back into it.

Classes: Scout, Soldier, Demo, Engi.

Star Turn: I managed to rack up 271 consecutive kills with a sentry on a standard server, 55 minutes of pure carnage. I had the entire opposing team dominated about three times over. When they finally dropped my gun the screen was flooded with abuse aimed at yours truly. Some people....

I have a stern love for Team Fortress 2. Although, my PC crashes alot because my hardware is faulty, when I do play TF2, I'm the Pyro, and I snipe snipers with the Flare gun. In fact, I'm a REALLY good shot with the thing, and it's fun to be annoying. Other than that, I LOVE the Axtinguisher so much, yet, Yahoozy hates it.. so I burn him then him him with it.

What I play:
Medic > Heavy > Soldier > Scout/Spy/Pyro > Sniper > Demo/Engineer.

What's good:
Medic, Heavy, Engineer help the team connectivity.
Soldier, Pyro, Demo are good at wrecking stuff, so help take out targets.
Scout and Spy are very fun, for opposing reasons, and can be effective but not all the time. On certain maps, they're just useless.
Sniper hurts the team. Get some kills, but don't help much.

Most thankless class:
Engineer. Even Medics get more props than them.

Most overrated class:
Demo/Pyro. Good classes, but sometime people overrate the successfulness of a player that's just spamming with those classes.

Lies. A really good sniper can break an opposing team.
I played a game the other day where the sniper on the opposing team had 37 kills on offense on the first part of Goldrush, when the offense won in ~4 minutes. If you do the math, and assuming it takes 20 seconds from the time you die until you get back into the fight (which is conservative), thats 12 and 1/3 minutes of someone on the opposing team being dead just from him. In a 4 minute long round, that means that the opposing team averaged having 3 less living people just because of him. Since this was a 12v12 game, effectively 1/4 of our team was always missing. Given that snipers can also selectively target more important targets (ie: taking out medic/heavy combos and engies), he pretty much obliterated our defense.

Also, 'get some kills, but don't help much' doesn't make sense, what does every other class do? Its either a) kill enemies, b) kill enemy sentry/dispenser/tele

I played that when it was posted on the old forums. I stopped playing it after a while, mostly due to extreme lag, but I've been playing it again since version 2 was released.

Woah. Just played my first few matches on my new laptop and this is how the game is supposed to run/look? I can actually snipe now (First go: 38/20 - death kills as opposed to double that negative before). 60-100 fps and everything on high = how did I manage before?

I have to disagree with b_t, just came into a game of ctf 2Fort '6-0' down, and we pulled back 3 caps mostly due to our two man sniper team suppressing the middle of the map for a good 20 minutes. All depends on the map I suppose, but snipers are definitely deadly in the right spots.

On attack/defense maps, I like going pyro or engie when defending and demoman or soldier when attacking. In general, I'd say engie, demoman and spy are my favorite classes.
I've started getting better with the pyro's airblast. It's so fun to set fire to someone, airblast him, whip out the axtinguisher, and get an easy kill. :D

Also, on the discussion of snipers, they are a great support class. They can pick off really annoying targets harming the team with relative ease. Having more than 2 on a team is overkill though.

I think Valve said they were working on getting all the class updates so far, including the scout's, out within the next couple of months, but I think Microsoft might hurt the process with all the certification everything has to go through.

SlappyMcGee's Class List:

Pyro>Soldier>Engineer>Heavy>Scout>Medic>Sniper>Spy>Demoman

A good team should be able to handle a sniper no matter what kind of support he has.

Excited about the scout update, yes?

Whoops, meant to comment on sa's comment about killing people and buildings being all you do. Capture points, moving carts forward, defending important spaces, these are all -integral- parts of the game. The sniper helps very little in maps like 2Fort, where you need someone to bring the intel back to your base, and with his average speed and bad close-combat experiences, he almost invariably ends up in a "sniper v. sniper v. occasional soldier" war.
