I'm awaiting it and hoping the game is nearly as good as the gameplaytrailer. What do you think?

Whether it's as good as Diablo 2 I don't know but it still looks fun.

I'll buy regardless of whether it is better or not. It will definitely be different, but i'll still enjoy it.

I've never played any of the Diablo games, but every game by Blizzard i've every played I've loved, so I'll have to try out Diablo sometime.

I'll probably buy it once it comes out mainly because I LOVED DIablo 1 and 2, so this one should be awesome on every level.

I'm going to take the same approach with D3 as with HG:L because it's basically the same situation.

I will wait until it comes out, not buy it, look at the general reaction on the boards, wait another 4 months, look at the NEW general reaction on the boards and then decide. I'm just really concerned because the people making D3 are not the same people who made D2 and D1, nor even have (my opinion) a very similar mindset.

The last thing I want is to buy D3 only to find out it plays like a third-person isometric WoW.

You obtained this information. Tell me the means by which this occurred. Not only is this a ridiculous claim, but how can you have an opinion about something like that?

At any rate, I am expecting no later than June 2009. Really looking forward to this game. I should get many, many sixteen-hour days out of it.

Um yeah the original Diablo devs either quit or got fired and got together and formed flashship studios which then released Hellgate: London and Mythos and have now gone bust.

Also new class announced at Blizzcon, The wizard.

This just in. Blizzard is a bunch of greedy bastards.. Read it.

They are going to make it so you have to pay a monthly fee to play Diablo 3 online.
We are looking to monetize Battle.Net so that we get to keep making these games and updating features. We kind of have to

Oh so that's what monetize means.

Well at least you can still play D3 in single player without monthly payments. And probably LAN too, hamachi here we come!

Me and my friend used to be pretty good at it.
But we're stuck on deciding whether or not to play Diablo 3, since we quit oh so long ago.
Haha, 'twas a good experience.

By the way runes work interestingly in this one.

For example you use a damage rune with the Wizard's teleport power you damage monsters you teleport in to and if you use a multi rune with it you make duplicates of your character.

Somewhat expected. They've seen with WoW that people are more than willing to pay monthly charges for online gaming. Also, servers and such do cost something to maintain, so it's not entirely silly, though it could be pretty annoying if you can't host your own game/server to avoid using Battlenet.

In related news, Blizzard is also splitting Starcraft 2 into three separate games, each of which will only have a campaign for one faction.

but each game will have 35 campaign missions, which is more then the original starcraft (not including broodmother)

Yeh, it might not be that though, there may just be a premium service or something. Either way, I'm getting it :D

Servers and staff certainly do not cost $75 million a month. ;_;

Of course not. But at least they're, y'know, actually providing a service which requires some degree of investment in return for your hard-earned. In constrast, the Starcraft thing looks more like selling the same game three times, to me.

WoW has 9 million players. Let's presume that only 8m are paying. Works at at roughly $8 a month. That works out at $64m a month. That's $768 million a year. Now why do we need to pay for battle.net?

Re: Diablo 3

Yeah, we had done that same calculation, except in USD, and we estimated that only half of those 9.5 Million players (~5 Million) were paying.

I supposed it all depends on whether blizzard are including the people who don't play any more in that number.

Also my calculations were in USD.

I'm just stoked that we'll finally get to see Azmodan. And maybe Belial, if Blizzard are nice enough. It is also going to be interesting to see which of the Greater and Lesser Evils will be returning, aside from Diablo.
