Also, here, check this out. TF2 Guns Orchestra. and when you're done, this TF2 Mass A.I. Ah, boredom.. it can do so much.

Not at all.blue_tetris wrote:People only complain about the Sandman's balance when it hits them and works. They don't notice all the times it misses them, isn't charging fast enough, or doesn't stun long enough to help the scout.
Additionally, most scouts don't even play it right. They Sandman you and then turn tail and run instictively in case it didn't work. By the time they register that it hit, they've wasted valuable time being scared.
The problem was that the sandman made scout (an already deadly 1v1 class) dominate in 1v1 situations. And before anyone points out this is a Team game, not a 1v1 game, the very definition of the scout means it'll be running ahead by himself for recon purposes meaning more 1v1 encounters for it. It's very easy to hit with the sandman when you've only one target to worry about, and that meant - in essence - a one hit kill (calmly walk up and empty two blasts to their immobile face).
This broke arena games mostly, and made anything else supremely frustrating.
Not to mention that the sandman's been banned from every competitive TF2 league.

EPIC LOLZ
No, god knows, just go to the Stream forums and check the spy sub forum, plenty of predictions/ideas.
Hoping they go for optimization before any kind of content addition though... this game drags its fat arse!

Nonono, scout was already killer good in Arena mode! Scout was already super hardcore 1v1 and such with the right amount of skill!SlappyMcGee wrote:Wait, wait, wait. The Sandman does not break arena mode. It gives the scout a use in Arena mode at all, and forces people to change strategies.
Fastest projectile in the game + fastest class in the game + easy to aim unlockable with stun utility = I M B A

So yeah, the scout's perfectly fine. He still has his hard counters. It made him slightly better with his soft ones, which I think he needed.
To be honest, I'm much more worried about an enemy scout equipping the Force-A-Nature than one with the Sandman, especially as a medic.

Sentry only counters scout if the scout takes the corner unaware. If the scout sees a turtling engi, one sandman hit = 1.5 pistol clips and bye bye sentry.Calcy wrote:Engie: "Buildin' a sentry."atob wrote:Fastest projectile in the game + fastest class in the game + easy to aim unlockable with stun utility = I M B A

And you don't have a worry about the uber stun utility as a medic?
-
Really though? I don't mind the sandman being slightly imbalanced, I don't mind it being a slightly cheap way to take kills, what the update really means is that now instead of me fearing every scout I see (it was the least played class before because it was the most difficult to get to grips with meaning most were career scouts = deadly as hell), I can rest assured that at least 70% of the time the player will be relying on his sandman for kills and will have next to know idea how to play the class properly.
I guess as a way to make scout popular by lessening the skill needed to play it, it was a success. It pissed off more people than it pleased, though.
Anyway, no doubt it'll die down once everyone's had their initial fun with the unlocks. Already I'm noticing more fall back to double jump over stun.

There's a major problem with this scenario though: there's a pretty good chance that the engie has teammates next to him. Good teammates will defend their teammate if he's been stunned or attack the scout, and medics will heal the person for the duration of the stun to make sure he doesn't die. Unless the scout has teammates coming up behind him to make a move, the scout has no chance of hitting the person he stunned or edging to kill the sentry. (Pyro's airblast works wonders on enemies who think they're cool enough to kill the sentry without it noticing them. :D )atob wrote:Sentry only counters scout if the scout takes the corner unaware. If a scout and an engie went 1 on 1, then yes, the scout will easily win, assuming the map is small enough (arena maps). However, you don't see that happen often.
Also, I don't worry too much about the uber stun nowadays because it seems there are less scouts on defense now. It is true that they are obnoxious. But in arena or a 5-CP map where scouts have the potential to get behind my team's lines, a scout with the FaN is absolutely deadly in the right hands. He can kill a demo/pyro point blank with two shots and still be able to run away.
This is true. I've started using scouts as grenade practice victims. They're so cute when they're gibbed. ^_^atob wrote:I can rest assured that at least 70% of the time the player will be relying on his sandman for kills and will have next to know idea how to play the class properly.
Also, I'm 115 30 points away from having a total of 100,000 points in TF2. :o

And yeh, feeding nades to scouts is my favourite TF2 pastime.
We'll see how it settles. I'm more concerned/excited about the multi core optimization their making for the next update (which is apparently very soon). Yay! :D

Yes, a typical "push" featuring every class in the game minus the spy and engie...
Does this happen in your games? Because it certainly doesn't happen in mine. :/

Well, aside from the stun mechanic breaking the flow of the game entirely (robbing control of a player in a fps is not a fun idea), yes, I'm talking about PUB play here.smartalco wrote:I think all of you complaining about the scout now being imbalanced are just playing with a bunch of horrible people. If you are playing with people that actually know what they are doing, they will protect your ass.
I've a clan I play a lot with, they're all above my skill level at least and seem to know a lot about the game, they play with the sandman and enjoy it so I'm not saying there's no place for it (and I appreciate that Vavle seem to be experimenting with the FPS ideal), but throwing it into the mix of an already hectic PUB environment robs more from the flow and pacing than it offers (imo).
And I know I've said it before, but the fact that it's banned in competitive play shows that there's an issue. The best players in the world would welcome a mechanic into the game with open arms if they could find a place for it, they'd relish the challenge and variety it would bring. It must have something imba about it if they won't accept it, surely?

Thoughts? I was honestly hoping spy would be next, but I am glad that this new update will have content for all the classes.

The class specific achievements come with the class updates, so when the Sniper update is released, there will be sniper achievements (/me is hoping for a 'kill 5 invisible spies' achievement >:D )

I think the word you're looking for is "awesome".blue_tetris wrote:They'll have to do spy at the same time as another class. I can't imagine what the game would be like with everyone as spy. I'm hoping for soldier soon, too.
Imagine a completely deserted playing field. There's not a soul to be seen. As you delve deeper into one side, you catch fleeting glimpses of smoke clouds in the corners of your vision. You head down to the red intel room, where out of nowhere a blue spy appears and grabs the intel. As soon as he turns to run back to his base, two red spies appear out of thin air. One is too far away for melee, so he fires a few shots while his friend stabs the blue from behind. The intel is recovered, and both immediately cloak again.
That would be amazing.
But more realistically, since no one can cloak for so damned long (I mean, we'll see how the updates go), half of each team would be in disguise. You'd pretty much have to run around shooting everyone just to make sure your base isn't being infiltrated (and pyros would be in heaven).
Point being, no one would be who they say they are.

Spies don't really using cloaking or disguise tactics against other spies very well. I think that match would be pretty boring. If you've ever watched an Arena map with only spies left.... yeah. They cloak and dick around when they should just finish each other off with the revolvers and it takes forever.SlappyMcGee wrote:Techno wrote:I'll just be pyro and go flaming everything in sight. /paranoidSlappyMcGee wrote:
