£40 a year is hardly an expense worth worrying over. A 360 premium with a live sub still works out cheaper than a ps3.

PS3 or 360 (long term vs game selection now?). I got a Wii, and have regretted it every day since. Game selection is abysmal (well, my kind of game anyway).

I've come to the realisation that it's pointless to argue which consoles are better, as they all offer something different for different audiences. If you want a gimmicky console that is good for party's or playing with the whole family then get wii. If you want a serious console with awesome graphics and powerful processing power then get a ps3. :/

Someone give this man a medal for the previously underlined. Give him a trophy, free tickets to Hawaii or something, for the greatest statement that could be uttered in the 20th century, and to confirm my beliefs that the X-box/360/Wii debates are as good as shit. In fact, I'd like to go as far as stating the same for Windows/Linux/Mac debates. They are only based on preference and experience, they can never hold water in a debate (except for statistics, and even then). I'd recommend him a Wii, it's more suited to the people he wants, basically.

Fixed. Heh. But I can strongly agree to both statements.

Buy a Wii. I figure if you enjoy games like Rockband and GH then you will prefer the majority of games that are avaliable on the Wii then PS3.

And because Wii's are just plain better. ;P

No you didn't. You implied that those who liked the Wii were somehow lesser ("unless you're 7 years old").

Also, it would do not only your posts but your self a lot of good if you paid attention to your grammar and spelling.

Because you type like an uneducated child. This is why everyone hates the way you type. Take two seconds, realize this forum spell checks for you, and write like an adult.

Lets not turn into a bunch of spelling and grammar Nazi's guys. The post's are reasonably clear. Maybe browse over the rules again and realise what ones you may be ignoring.

I might as well get my word in before this guy has to make a decision.

wedgie said it the best; none of the consoles are superior to the others, they're just marketed differently and contain differences that appeal to certain demographics.

The PS3 is for the power user. If you're looking for high-definition games and movies (ala the Blu-Ray player) and a digital entertainment center for your living room (or wherever), then buy the PS3. It has a free online service/marketplace, too. It might put a larger dent in the wallet initially, but it's like a diesel engine - it runs for a long time.

The Wii is for the family man or the guy whose house becomes the party place on Friday nights. There are a few "heavier" titles like Metroid Prime 3, SSBB, and Mario Kart Wii, but generally it focuses on minigames and smaller, more interactive titles that are quick to learn or break the gaming norm. It provides novelty entertainment for a low price, and it even comes with Wii Sports to get you started, which is actually quite a hit with the ladies, from my experience. ;)

It's up to you, buddy. Take it or leave it.

The main argument against the Wii is that it is mainly minigames. Even I put that forward. But I was browsing through my collection, and I've pulled out all the proper games, most of which have great replay value, and got this list, to hopefully destroy the myth:

[Rapid deletion of de Blob and MKW dupes]
de Blob
Guitar Hero: World Tour
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Mario Kart Wii
Need for Speed: Carbon
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Paper Mario
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

And these are only the games that I own, there are plenty more where these came from. And, with all of the Christmas releases, from Animal Crossing to Sonic Unleashed, you'll always find a bunch of brilliant single player games, although they may not appeal to the more bloodthirsty gamers. Well, I suppose that The Conduit will be out in early 2009. That better live up to the expectations being piled upon it! :D

And Mario Kart Wii Twice ...

Yer ... I have a wii .... but to this day wish i had of gotten a ps3 ... though wiis are fun theyre are the party consle ... (you need alot of people to have fun on ot) though the ps3 is more a Solo Console for Single Player games (though it does have the good variety of online games)

So i guess for what your saying ... you should get the wii if you only intend on getting GH world tour/rock band and wii fit so id go with wii.

These are either multi-platform or there are multiple renditions of the same game, and the 360/PS3 versions of NFS Carbon are superior. I was specifically referring to all first party games on the Wii other than anything that has Mario (and friends), Zelda, "Bros.", Sonic, or any of their other mascots. Nintendo needs more first party games that are original, not single player games overall, because that's how they're doing well.

Also, NFS ProStreet was gimped on the PS2 and Wii versions. Not only are the graphics downgraded because of inferior hardware, but there's no online play for either of them, the framerate is choppy, there are actually less cars to unlock and because the PS2/Wii have no expansion capabilities, you can't get booster packs of cars, and several gamemodes are missing. Why should we bother having these games on the Wii if, because of the limited capabilities, it's actually less of a game compared to the 360 and PS3 versions?

The Wii version of RE4 is said to be superior to the other versions. This is also true of the Zelda-like Okami, which was previously released on PS2, and Pro Evolution Soccer, which I believe is available on other consoles but has a unique control system on the Wii. Also, I'm pretty sure that Twilight Princess is not available on the PS3 or Xbox, though you can get it on the Cube if you have one.

Anyway, it's true that the Wii is a bit lighter on FPSs and the more "realistic" racing games like GT and NFS. If you really like that sort of game, or if you really love your shiny high-def graphics, you might want to upgrade your PC. Failing that, you might want to buy a PS3. If these things aren't overly important to you, you might be better off with the Wii. It's cheaper, and it's got a couple of good games in most genres.

If you're not offended by substandard graphics, you could also look into the backward compatibility factor. Old titles can often be picked up very, very cheap and are good for filling in weaknesses in the current software line-up. If you get a Wii, I put in my personal recommendation for F-Zero GX, which remains one of the best racing games ever produced.

What bothers me isn't the graphics but the fact that the majority of the games boil down to waggling the controller vertically or horizontally. When the new peripheral that comes out which lets you have full 3D movement comes out I may finally buy a Wii rather than looting a friends for a month or so.

I don't understand why people buy these new-fangled "video games". It's all just pressing buttons, and you can do that without buying the game, can't you?
