1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
2. Crash Team Racing (first game I lost sleep over)
3. Metroid: Zero Mission
4. Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.
I notice that Naughty Dog used a near identical label, "among thieves", in Uncharted 2's sub title. The 2 studios are friends, after all.
5. Pokemon G/S/C. I haven't had a chance to try HG/SS yet.
I tried not to include any current gen games in that list because some of the best games (from a pure mechanics standpoint) are earlier ones, but it's hard. Honorable mentions go to Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3 as well as some current-gen titles: Need for Speed Shift, inFamous, Killzone 2, Metroid Prime 3, and Red Faction: Guerrilla.

1. Metal Gear Solid (PSX)
2. Halo: Combat Evolved
3. Team Fortress 2
4. The World Ends With You
5. Borderlands
Number five might be subject to change, but right now it's the coolest thing I've played in ages.

A link to the past was awesome for nostalgic reasons alone and for the gameplay (and that crazy water maze) but I think they really nailed the gameboy zeldas with the Oracles games. Minish cap managed to get some of that feel, too, for those who need thousands of colours to be having fun. There was just something awesome about being able to beat both games twice on the same save what with hero's codes and all. Ages was my preference.
If we're going the nostalgia route, Jet force Gemini and Perfect Dark get mentions as shooters I used to love (goldeneye never did it for me, for some reason, though there was definitely fun in proximity mines), especially the former. Still, on N64 the games I lived for were Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. Especially that last game. The fact that they're remaking OoT for the 3DS makes me really, really want them to do Majora's mask as well. If they don't I'll be sopissed. Beh, zelda in general is awesome, especially on that magical first playthrough. There's something cool about that universe. I never got to play through wind waker. Banjo Kazooie also made me happy, it's a pretty juicy game in terms of audiovisual feedback, and I can appreciate that. Tooie was also good, though it would've done well to be just a little bit more dystopian. Still, great games.
All of the first 3 crash bandicoot games got played to death by me. No joke, my Crash 1 disk doesn't load level 19 anymore. Loved them to death, the whole thing felt lush and interesting. Heck, 3 even had reflections in puddles ffs.
At some point, I discovered emulation and the fun that brought about. Part of that was rediscovering pokemon after a year or so of being immersed in whatever else was going on. The 3rd Gen pokemon games are my favourites (I like the second gen as well) for reasons I've gone through before, mostly just cause it still feels like pokemon but without all the obtuse town layouts and idiotic menus. I still play my second gen games sometimes though (gold and crystal for those wondering - I know I know, lugia is cooler).
Other games that really shone on the GBA (or VBA-M now) were the Megaman games (battle network was cool for a while, but zero is the best. It's hard, something I appreciate in a game, and feels more like old megaman but refined. I really like what they did with that universe) and that little gem Mario & Luigi, Superstar Saga. If they had a battle system like they had in MaLSS in the old final fantasy games, I'd play them again.
On that note, I can't really stand turn based battles any more, especially when they're coupled with random encounters. Its something I've realised doing a lot of game design; when the least fun part of your game is the action sequences, something is wrong. Thus, the old Final Fantasies aren't on here :(
Final Fantasy X was good. The battles shit me to no end but there was a fun universe happening, and some amazing animation.
Kingdom Hearts 1 was a game I loved though. Me and a friend got amazing at it, and it managed to make disney characters interesting to me again. Hurts my eyes a little now like all old 3D does, but still had an engaging battle system if you weren't being a massive asshole and hiding and using cure on everyone. The enemies were awesome too.
I just about only play indie computer games now, I think that probably came from my affair with N. Cortex Command, Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft, Spelunky, all of these are names that I could give you too many silly anecdotes from, but I won't. It's late. I might come and fix this up later, or just post again later on.
