I think that Sonic Unleashed suck ass. I only played, like, the first 3 levels with normal sonic and weresonic before it was too painful to keep playing. Basically, the running part with sonic is similar to what they've done with 3d games, except worse, and the weresonic levels are tedious, boring, repetitious, boring, hard when they shouldn't be and easy when they shouldn't be, and boring. The only good 3d sonic game I've played and enjoyed was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I loved that game to pieces. But, yeah, the 2d ones were great.
Edit: Oh, and Sonic Heroes was okay, I guess. Not bad, but not all that great in my opinion.
Edit: Also, Sonic the Dark Knight looks horrible, and sounds like a dumb idea, in my opinion.

Being the fanboy of the topic I only see it nessecary to pick apart you're arguement. But with common sense and acceptance of your views, rather than "OMG n00b sonic is gr8 you suck... etc"AFling wrote:I think that Sonic Unleashed suck ass. "Basically, the running part with sonic is similar to what they've done with 3d games, except worse" - Well, I personally think the 3d bits are better. Longer straights for speeding along... I don't really see much of the Sonic levels as I normally have the boost button held down. But what about the 2d parts? They were never included in the previous 3d games, so I really don't see where this part of the arguement is coming from...
"The weresonic levels are tedious, boring, repetitious, boring, hard when they shouldn't be and easy when they shouldn't be, and boring." - Yeah, the Werehog levels do get boring after a while, but then so does any level when you're doing the same stuff around 20 minutes a piece. But repetitious? Well, isn't a beat-'em-up meant to be repeatitive? But, that combined with the platforming can get quite repeatitive...
"The only good 3d sonic game I've played and enjoyed was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I loved that game to pieces. But, yeah, the 2d ones were great." - Absolutely... true. SA2B is argueably the best Sonic game to date (and the point when everything went downhill). A couple of things don't make sense in the game (i.e. Tails' karting section - why doesn't he just fly the Tornado, which would be faster, than drive it like a car on a road?), but it was brilliant none the less.
"Edit: Also, Sonic the Dark Knight looks horrible, and sounds like a dumb idea, in my opinion." - Well, it's just really an idea to carry on from the success from SatSR. Sonic with a sword doesn't really seem right, but hey, this is for the younger fans as far as I'm aware (thus named, the Storybook series). I just hope they don't reuse a character like Shrara (I'm not going to bother to check it's right, so sue me), for two reasons. 1) SatSR's storyline was rubbish, and we don't want a repeat of that. 2) Well, you'll end up with something like this:
At which point, Nintendo will sue... (if you don't get the reference, nevermind. And yeah, the image is quite bad. Oh well.)

I really....loved to year that. As I live in the country where Sonic, SEGA and all things from Nintendo are thought to be for children (sad, but freakin' true), I don't get a lot of info on that.
Even if it was rubish, at the end, when my hands were burning and my arms were aching, my stomach, when watching the final movie, was saying the ending was quite good, and my mouth was open, saying:"This game is wonderful"; "What a game" (really, at 3 a.m., when I finished it, I really couldn't stop thinking 'bout it.Drathmoore wrote:1) SatSR's storyline was rubbish, and we don't want a repeat of that.
But yeah, handkerchiefs are... :/
Well, what about Sonic Riders? I don't care what everybody says, the game's great. A great game for Time Trials: fast, with a good learning line and with those techno-flashy graphics.
Spent some good times... on the demo of it. :P

I'd be surprised that people think M-rated games are for children, but I've heard of people assuming anime porn movies are for kids purely because they're animated. Despite the very clear 18+ rating and being told by the video store staff that it's not suitable for the kiddies. So... yeah.Donfuy wrote:I really....loved to year that. Associations most Portuguese people do:
SEGA=Sonic=kids
Nintendo=Mario=kids
I don't really get it. They just associate that.
I remember myself playing Sonic on my netbook, and it seemed everyone looked at the pc, looked at me and then laughed.

Well, the storyline wasn't that bad, to be honest (better than '06's by a long shot...), but really made no sense. A genie pops out of a book, pulls Sonic into the book. And hows this all happening in real-time, the book being destroyed? Time doesn't pass in a book...
And handkerchiefs... What were they thinking. Yes, it repeats what happened in the beginning of the game (something that seems to be a common trend in Sonic games since '06), but come on. Thats wasn't a brilliant way to end. And the Alf laya wa laya battle was just brilliance, and where he seals him back in the lamp. But the handkerchiefs... slightly spoils it, really.

*Slightly*?
"Shara, can I have one more wish?"
"Yes..?"
"I wish for a million of handkerchiefs, so that whenever you need them blablabla"
Me, while stunned by the awesome last level and seeing the genie going into that lamp, then started to be: =/ Wtf. It's like having a game for all ages in the whole game, and ending with handkerchiefs for kids.
Yeah, kids.
EDIT: Oh, and in the last movie, I love the way Sonic's eyes reflect things. It seems like he has glass eyes.

It looks like Black Night's going to be quite a bit different to Secret Rings, mainly due to two things:
1. It's not on rails. Which means the player has control over Sonic.
2. Sonic is apparently not the only playable character. Whether this is true or not, only time will tell, but it seems that Knuckles, Shadow and Blaze are also playable characters. My only problem is that whereas you can get Knuckles in the storyline relativly easily, what about Blaze and Shadow. Supposedly the three are knights of the round table, but I haven't heard of a knight that can control fire, or a knight that can warp through time and space...

Are you saying you have heard of a knight who is a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog and runs around wearing nothing but shoes and a pair of gloves? Because that would be odd. Also an echidna who can mysteriously hang-glide by, uh... spreading his arms? Or is it supposed to be his spikes? Maybe they confused echidnas with sugar gliders.

Hmm...
I just buckled down and got through a huge chunk of Unleashed on Wii (I'd been delaying playing it since Christmas) and found myself pleasantly surprised. The Day sections are awesome, though much too simple, and few in number. Invisible walls are picky too, and they should all be removed before I take a jackhammer to that goddamn Chinese level. Also, the lack of warning when a jump is required to climb a step annoys me, but it'd be much easier to overcome this if the camera wasn't aimed at Sonic's goddamn feet. ¬_¬ Also, the game cannot keep up with the pace. The camera often fixes, and you go shooting off (and consequently dying) without it, and I've also managed to make the Egg Beetle boss vanish for a whole two minutes before it came shooting towards me in a big bundle of fail. Oh yeah, and the strafe is balls. Manual control please?
The Night sections are pretty (very) pants, but I often found myself feeling like I was playing a good ol' Bandicoot platformer, with a few gimmicks thrown in. Sure, it has no place in the game, but it wasn't ALL bad. Although you have to wonder why the Werehog's wearing spiky boots, but insists of moving like a big lump of frosted hairy shit.
Y'never know, they might crack it one day...

I don't really play Sonic past Sonic Adventure really, so I don't care much about Sonic's Future, since I don't like new games anyway.
I remember 1997 when I first played Sonic 2 on my dad's MegaDrive :D
I found Sonic Heroes boring after playing it at my friend's house.
Sonic and the Black Knight will suck. :)

Of course I like Brawl! I was just winding you up. It's one of the nicest games ever - I don't have it but I play it at my friend's place.

After hearing that SatBK won't use the tilt control, I have real doubts about that.
And, by the way, why the hell doesn't Sega use the same story... uhm... method (I forgot a better word) they used in the past?
WHY THE HELL DOES HE NEED A SWORD, IF HE ALREADY HAS HUGE BOOTS?

I won't just piranhate you with no proofs.
And if you read my post, you know that I'm not very expectant of what will be Sonic and the Black Knight.
But if you talk about SatSR, that's another case. Have you tried it? =P
And Sonic Heroes, I've heard some people saying that's good, but I haven't actually played it.

I think it'll be better without tilt control; personally I felt it took too long to get to grips with (whether that's the controls itself or the speed of which he moves at the beginning of the game, I don't know).
Why not Huge Boots? Because Huge Boots will never get you anywhere in the world!
Which, after writing that I realised how ironic that statement is looking at the story of Sonic Unleashed. Meh.
I guess they want to add a bit of variety. Or want to copy Nintendo. Whatever they're doing, they don't seem to be doing it brilliantly. Maybe they can ask Miyamoto for help while he's supervising the MaSatWO team (Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics if anyone doesn't get the abbrieviation).

One reason why Sonic is getting worse is all those useless characters that only appear in one game IMO. Also, I hate shadow.
Mario does get those useless characters (especially in the RPGs) that appear in 1 game, and that's why I don't really like them.
