I remember my first playthrough clearly.
Lv.5 Pidgey vs. Lv.12 Onix. Tackle spam prevailed!
Pidgey was Lv.9 after the battle.
Why the hell is the first gym in Pokemon Yellow rock-themed?

Ha, I don't remember /my/ first match with Brock, but I do remember beating him for my little brother, without asking or being asked to do so. He was /not/ happy. He started with Bulbasaur, too, so it's not like he needed help. Don't ask what I was thinking, I was about seven years old.Chase wrote:I remember my first playthrough clearly.

So, the first Pokemon game I ever played was Gold (obsessively), and you fight fifty Bellsprouts in the big tower in ... Violet (?), and I always clocked 'em with Ember and it was great fun. I miss that game.Pheidippides wrote:The what?flagmyidol wrote:I'm getting hit with the Bellsprout Nostalgia phenomenon.

Perhaps because of purposeless posts like this one? Or, you know, people might actually be discussing a topic. I heard that's what the kids are doing on forums nowadays.Rhekatou wrote:How the heck has this topic spanned two pages?
Ah, Sprout Tower. A level-grinding, Bellsprout-torching extravaganza! Except, not extravagant. Oh well; my team never complained about the easy level-ups in there.

I think my totodile did; those constant vine whips were *painful*. I had to capture and raise a pidgey after a while, which was actually a really useful move in the long run.Pheidippides wrote:Ah, Sprout Tower. A level-grinding, Bellsprout-torching extravaganza! On a bit of a tangent, I felt sorry for Chikorita in G/S/C: compared to the other two starters, it's incredibly hard to get past the first two gyms on its own, plus it simply cannot cope with your rival's cyndaquil, especially since the only water pokemon I remember being able to get early on is wooper which, although cute, isn't terribly useful (oh yeah, magikarp too, but that doesn't count). At least totodile could be taught ice punch when you got to Goldrenrod.

Pfft, Quagsire with Yawn, Earthquake, Waterfall and <filler> is a great attacker. Shame it's special stat isn't great for Surf, alike Gyarados.Seneschal wrote:I think my totodile did; those constant vine whips were *painful*. Rhekatou: Bad behaviour got you banned rather recently and now you seem intent on pointing out the misbehaviour of others, so let me be plain: You are not staff. We do not need nor desire you to make observations.
That said, perhaps there should be a massive PokeThread.

The easiest way to beat any Pokemon game is to use your starter, and your starter only. I captured the legendary for fun, but never needed them for battles. Fighting the opposite pokemon type was never a problem thanks to my level advantage.

I never thought the point to any Pokemon game was to win. I always try to catch as many Pokemon (excluding repeats) as I can without really going out of my, and level all of them to fifty. I actually try to use my starter as little as possible.Aldaric wrote:The easiest way to beat any Pokemon game is to use your starter, and your starter only.
