I am looking forward to diablo lll in terms of gameplay, seeing as it was my first RPG. Actually... probably my first game (that I remember at least).
Though starcraft ll will be cool, I'm more interested in the change in proffessional star craft'ing, maybe firebathero will make a comeback! (that guy was such a dick xD)
EDIT: Wait... Am I the only person here who watches pro star craft matches?
._.

i also enjoy watching matches. Wasn't firebathero the guy that stripped down and ran into the ocean in celebration after he won a big match? i remember a whole ton of drama surrounding that and how disrespectful he was to the losers, haha.

Bingo. I think they introduced a no stripping rule after that.PALEMOON wrote:Wasn't firebathero the guy that stripped down and ran into the ocean in celebration after he won a big match? i remember a whole ton of drama surrounding that and how disrespectful he was to the losers, haha.
Yeah, Fbh was climbing up the ranks really fast, even beat sAviOr (and made him have a tantrum by dancing around...). Unfortunatly he's been slipping down the ranks, and so pro starcraft isn't as interesting as it had been, more people playing seriously instead of just doing ridiculous stuff.
Still, there are good matches occasionally. Also the english commentators are so good, so at least I got that :D

Yeah, Starcraft has taken a hit lately a bit, but watching people move their command center into a protoss base and turning it into a fortress makes me wonder how many goddamn strategies there will be in Starcraft 2.Aphex wrote:Bingo. This article gets crazy as it continues.
This article is actually mostly untrue. I want to support the algorithm here; but the fact that it used an extractor trick demonstrates already to me a flaw on a fundamental level.
EDIT: Actually, I've been doing some math and I was wrong. This is the only good use of the extractor trick. This is brilliant!

See? See?! It's so crazy! The only thing is that, at this point, the algorithm doesn't take into account the scout drone.=w= wrote:hairscapades wrote:http://lbrandy.com/blog/2010/11/using-g ... ld-orders/

Although with the roach buff, you aren't going to need the scout drone until diamond level anyway. Even then, it's hard to counter and if you do, it's an easy transition for Zerg.hairscapades wrote:See? See?! It's so crazy! Good job. Gold is probably the most fun level of competetive play. Plat will punish you for small mistakes and Diamond is built around whatever the latest cheese at the GSL is.

I don't know what this means at all but it sounds ridiculous.=w= wrote:Diamond is built around whatever the latest cheese at the GSL is.

Cheese refers to strategies that aren't strategic, but rather aim to exploit certain early game things. The most famous of these is the 6pool from SC1, which could win a game in four minutes because you can make lings fucking fast. They tend to be all-in (that is to say, you cannot recover and play if they fail)
The GSL is the Global Starleague, which runs a variety of tournaments relating to SC2 in Korea, including the most high profile tournies so far, that is to say, the Opens they have run.

Is it called "cheese" because of the relation to swiss and the holes in the game balance?

It's more that it's a cheap, canned tactic that the user knows isn't original and isn't fully in the spirit of the game. There's no real metaphor to be made with cheese; it's simply a word that seems to capture that whole feeling for whatever reason.hairscapades wrote:Is it called "cheese" because of the relation to swiss and the holes in the game balance?

Just got SC2 two days ago. Still learning the ropes (my first RTS ever, other than some Red Alert 2 I played a long time ago). Really liking it so far.

Hare #399 on SEA, presently downloading US version so I may play that. I'll get that username to you soon. I assume everyone else who posted here is playing on the US server?
