Good news, everyone! You don't get the unlockables via achievements, you get them spontaneously by killing people. Hooray.

On top of that, it seems it is impossible to unlock any of the weapons from the previous class updates via achievements anymore!
I have been playing for 2 and a half hours and have yet to even receive a weapon I already have!
I hate Valve now!

On the other hand, it beats servers with only snipers and spies in them farming achievements. I like the new system, but I think the rate at which you get the new stuff is far too low. We wanna get our stuff fast, then go on to enjoy it. The TF2 community is not one that likes to labor for items just to make the game playable--that's why we play TF2 and not WoW.

The point in doing this was because people were constantly using programs to cheat for achievements to give them all the stuff immediately, in the past valve have made it so people who have cheated couldn't unlock weapons via achievements but people still cheated. So they've changed the system. If you want to blame anyone, blame the cheaters.

The new system just feels too random, and certainly isn't fun for most. I've been on with a few friends for the last few hours and they've go nothing but repeats of unlocks they don't even use. I know everyone will get it all eventually, but without something to work toward it's just not enjoyable.

I guess it means we'll all just play the game now instead of going for achievements.

EDIT: Unlocked the Dead Ringer, Huntsman, and Razorback. They're all very awesome, especially the Dead Ringer. Adds a run and gun capability to your spy, very combat efficient.

EDIT 2: Just found the Ambassador, this gun makes spies who can aim almost unstoppable. Every headshot is a crit. Comes up with a cute 'Mini Crit' indicator in yellow, too :)

I don't mind it not being tied to achievements, but making it (as far as I can tell) completely random is completely ridiculous. At a minimum, relate it to play time or something. Some guy standing in the spawn room for 10 minutes shouldn't get a new weapon when me playing for 2.5 hours doesn't get me jack.

I've been getting more sniper/spy stuff than other stuff.

I got two Ambassadors (love it--I run and gun with it and get two kills a life, often), Cloak & Dagger, and Razorback. Also, three sandwiches, several Bonk!s, a few KGBs and some other stuff. But a phenomenal amount of sniper/spy stuff, by comparison, so I think the percentages are at least weighted.

Also, considering you can get multiple instances of items, I imagine trading will occur soon enough. I'll have an extra Ambassador for someone in exchange for, say, a Huntsman.

Good find with the Ambassadors, b_t, they really are awesome. Especially when used with the Dead Ringer. My spah feels slightly unstoppable.

It took me a while to get used to the Huntsman, but now I think the sniper class might be moving up to my top three. Not only is it super smooth, and very, very accurate at mid range, it's got the sexiest sound when you pull back the bowstring. Razorback is far from as useless as people were making out it was going to be, too. It's saved my arse a good very times already, I'll take it over the smg any day.

I've been grinding non-stop for 15 hours--no lie--and haven't gotten half the goodies yet. So, it's good the issue is known.

Also, when I see the Razorback, I just line up an Ambassador headshot and pull twice. Not a problem--and the headshot still gives you the extra point that a backstab usually grants!

For sure, I guess it's usefulness will depreciate over time. So many of the people I'm playing with so far haven't even heard of it.

Anyways, I too don't like this new method of getting items. I got Bonk! and the Razorback after about 2 hours of playing on our server.

Also, yeah, Ambassador's probably gonna get tweaked a bit--but even so, I still think I'd prefer it to the normal revolver. I don't think I often fired outside a normal hit range and, honestly, the headshot is where it's at.

You've played Unreal Tournament. I like to no-scope with the sniper rifle because the shot is instant and perfectly accurate. If you get good at quick headshots in melee range, you may as well be playing instagib while everyone else uses their "weapons" whose rounds fly at a casual 20 mph when fired. I think I'll very much like the Ambassador for the same reason.

I've played the game for 10 hours, I'm all TF2d out, and all I've gotten is the Sandvich, and the Blutsauger. And as an added bonus.. look who I found just hanging around.

They're patching the time thing, also in the latest news update on teamfortess.com it says they're adding a trading system, so if we all work together we can get all the items pretty easily. Now who wants 3 Force-a-natures?

Have you used the Ambassador since the update last night b_t? It was broke in that it used the environment collision hitboxes (the one that keeps you from running into walls, and is the same width at your head as at your torso) instead of the one every other weapon checks against, which was fixed last night.

Well, I can't wait till we get Epic mounts, and they release the DeathÜber. Also, you do realize that those extra weapons that you find will have random stats right? So you might find a Backburner that does +10 fire damage. Valve is...trying too hard. When they add on Monthly fees and Billing Support, I'll be done with them.

If you want reserved slot access, post your Steam ID, which is usually in the form of STEAM_0:1:<some number>. Note that I'll probably only give it to people that I know will play on the server often.

I never see the server active. What time are you guys on (gmt)?

And the weapons don't have random stats so far, was that an official word? I've read so much rubbish on the steam forums lately I'm getting a little blurred.

Also, the ambassador is really weak after the balance. Crit headshots only do 40 damage and it doesn't damage buildings or stickies. Has no random crit chance, either. Consensus is that the headshots (crits) should be brought up to 80 damage. Hopefully they'll buff it soon, it's potentially a great weapon.

I do believe mine is Snuggletummy, but I could be wrong. I just checked Steam too, and it says something like http://steamcommunity.com/id/Snuggletummy/home. So I imagine Snuggletummy is the ID you need. Oh, also, I think that this latest update fixed my game's crashing problem.. oh joy :D.

After two days of playing, all I've gotten is the Ambassador, the backburner, and kritzkreig. Ugh, I hate this system.

My stats put Medic and Heavy at the very bottom of the list of the classes I'm interested in playing, but so far I've only received items for those two classes out of the 12.4 hours it says I've played. Shit is bogus. I want to know how they intend us to weigh the chances in favor of getting certain items already.
And if this item system turns into something reminiscent of Diablo 2, I'll probably stop playing altogether.
