I have to agree that Corruption is not as good as previous Metroid titles, due to being much more linear and having uninteresting upgrades. Special surfaces to walljump, special tracks for the Spider Ball, locks which require the Boost Ball for no good reason... I sometimes felt my upgrades were a set of glorified keys. In previous Metroid titles they had more utility in regular play, rather than simply being used to pass a "puzzle" which consists of scanning something and being told "You need item X to proceed."

Agreed. Pr1me was open, but you still had to do things in a cetain order; the spice was from the optional upgrades! Who could forget the Wavebuster... Also, the artifact finding part was fun. You got to go whereever whenever looking for some shiny holograms. Awesome.
