Smogon, one of the oldest and largest competitive Pokemon battling communities, has a beginner guide right here.

And for all of those acronyms that are bothering you (or anyone else, for that matter), they have a nice dictionary too.

Same.

Most of the time, if I don't know what to give one of my Pokemon, I give it some Leftovers. :p

Item clause is daft though.

Item clause will not be used in this competition. And I thinking an OU tournament might fit this type of competition best. It'll be a lot more fun if we don't have too many limits on what types of Pokemon we can choose.

I'm guessing we won't be using my server, since I've never received a conformation.

Whatever guys.

Uni's been pretty busy with assessments and such. I'll get all the cogs turning on the weekend.

What server are we using? We shouldn't use the main server, because that's where everyone goes.

Once again, I offered you guys a chance to use mine, but apparently, you don't want it...

Can you run your server 24/7? If you can set it up like that, I'd be happy to use your server for the tourney. Otherwise, I don't see any problems with players competing on nb.pmnb.net. Competitors can just refrain from engaging in battles until their opponent is ready.

Chase: This tournament will allow all Pokemon bar Ubers. So it's essentially OU.

Err, I might have a problem with 24/7, as I can't leave my computer on every day for the whole year, but I can(hopefully) fit in at least 5 hours. Or I could hand the server controls over to someone else when I have to leave.

Now, should we make a password for entering the server? Like, so random people won't come in (though they probably won't anyway).

Damn straight; favourites over tiers anyday.

Also, are there any limitations to Stats? i.e. Amount of IVs set to 31, etc...

With Netbattle, you're given complete control over Pokemon stats. Ideally, you'll want to have them at 31 (unless you're using Hidden Power) for maximization.

And MyCheezKilledYours, if you can't run your server for the majority of the day, then it probably wouldn't be as effective. At this stage, I imagine just using the main server will do.

Ooh, hold on, I might be able to join...I used to play on shoddybattle, had a decent record too although I only ever used an OU team. I'll need to download this first though, if I can.

Hmm, I'll have to dig up my old team...

EDIT: Got it installed, putting together a team as I type.

SECOND EDIT: Damn it, it's not working. Only the Team Builder is working, when I try to access anything else I get the following message:

Run-time error '339': Component 'MSWINSCK.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

Any help?

I made a team using only the letter A for their initials. Count me in and shit. Also if I'm online and you want a battle, give me a shout.

Is the main server working? I'm having problems connecting with Netbattle. Shoddy works perfectly fine, but Netbattle doesn't seem to be working.

Sorry to repeat myself but I would be very grateful if someone could tell me what this means:
Netbattle wrote:Run-time error '339': Component 'MSWINSCK.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.
...and why it means I can't access Netbattle. I created a team, but eveytime I try and do something else I get this message and it closes down on me.
Thanks.

Hey Cheesemonger, will this help with that error?

If not you can probably look around on those forums for what you're looking for.

Also if I'm online and you want a practice battle, then Pm me.

We're going to be using Netbattle Supremacy. Have a look at the tournament thread for more information.
