Could you elaborate on your review a little. I liked the first one but was unsure on weather to buy the second one or not.

I never played the first one, but I bought the second one and it was freaking amazing and was quite worth the money I spent on it.

i played the original, and liked it enough to buy 2.

1 is fun, but not as much as 2. Some good scares here though, if you pay attention

2 is really amazing...not so many HOLYSHIT moments but it did make me jump several times. The general playability aspect of the shooting is much better in this one

I agree with kai.

I really liked the game, but it certainly wasn't worth what I paid for it. I really liked the spooky bits and the cinematic feel, but the gameplay actually got in the way of the experience for me.

Generic sci-fi horror setting with your compulsory bullet-time mechanic and 'everyday' weapons and general design. Ugh.

Some atmospheric moments (walking into a dark and silent room and hearing enemy comm chatter spark to life can be quite effective) and a smattering of decent set pieces didn't save the first game for me. Horror elements felt tacked on and cheesy for the most part.

Tried to run the demo of 2 from my Steam account, but got some kind of appcrash error. Not bothered enough to try to fix it.

On a side note, Slick265, you don't need to attach an image every single time you post. You can add a sig in your control panel just like you have the images of your NUMA maps below that line.

I don't know if you'd call it generic, so much as too complex. You can have survival horror. You can have simulationist, modern gun battles. You can have giant mechs. You can have a bullet-time mechanic. You can have dystopian future setting. You can even have two of those. You can even have THREE of those. When you throw them all together in a valiant effort to do something novel, none of those individual elements seem to be fleshed out well-enough. You have something that wanted to be innovatively eclectic, but winds up rough and disjointed.

I'd play any two of its elements done convincingly. Bullet-time zombie fights? Duck-and-cover combat plus huge mecha? Dystopian future with a Lovecraftian megabeast that owns the husk of yestercity? Awesome. This game? Good sometimes, confusing most times.

It's just, for me at least, the survival horror elements are completely tagged on. The rest I've seen too often clumped together.

The core mechanic is fun enough, I just don't think I could play a sequels worth.

the feel has defiantly changed.
i miss running down a hallway and a floor demon grabbing my foot and dragging me into almas hell while i kick and shoot my way free. i miss spooking replica squads, making them so nervous they keep talking (giving off their position) and then hearing their squad leader yelling "shut the fuck up!!!" at em. i miss going unarmed and pissing people off online, listening to them complain about how unskilled i am (when really, if you cant kill me from 3 inches, you need to stfu or learn to evade). i miss slide kicking in tough to reach places WITHOUT the damn physics engine going all retarded and not letting me. i miss the feeling of despair when pass one firefight and enter another. i miss leaning around corners. i miss dedicated servers and the old school deathmatch feel. i miss the custom duke nukem and quake 3 maps. i miss the power of saving whenever the hell i feel like it. i miss the times when gamespy stayed the hell home, and didnt fuck shit up for me. i miss custom skins and the dark industrial feel of the default ones. i miss the old partical weapon. i miss the repeater. i miss dual pistols.

but most of all, i miss the surprises. sure they had some good ones.... but not nearly as many as they had in the first 3 (im counting the extraction point expansion as a stand alone sequel, cause it kinda was).
