First off this is a pretty annoying debate in any case, because it involves Anonymous, but anyways. I tried to log on to my PSN account today, to which my PS3 told me that I couldn't. I troubleshot, followed as many processes as I could, to no avail. After a while, I thought that I'd type in Google "Playstation network April 2011 problems", and information about Sony having hacker troubles from Anonymous came up. The idea is that Anonymous have started hacking into Sony, as an act of retaliation after what happened with the "GeoHotz" debacle (I can't be bothered explaining the full thing.)
So, I was wondering if anyone else on the PSN is experiencing problems, and if so, what do you think about these claims that Anon is doing something stupid again?

Anonymous "hacks" are usually them just DDoS-ing someone, and yeah they did that a while ago. Doubt that's the deal.

Also, amazed that it took 'em (nearly) a month to get this back up and running again.

I read somewhere that they did it to make sure nobody would be able to hack them again (in the same way). Also, it would be better to save face and take the time to get things back to normal instead of doing it after putting it live. Or I think so at least.N4Srs wrote:Also, amazed that it took 'em (nearly) a month to get this back up and running again.

This wasn't anonymous any more than anything can be attributed to anonymous. The 4chan-associated group is much more about social activism than stealing your information. Likely, whoever stole our credit card numbers, names, and addresses is just a small group of hackers looking to make mad bank by selling to advertisers.

id hardly call them a group... sure, maybe at the core, but anyone can don the mask and recite the chant really. but im just saying that as a possibility (that a anon member acted on his own accord), slaps is prolly' right on this one.SlappyMcGee wrote:This wasn't anonymous any more than anything can be attributed to anonymous. Ooh, scary words. Thems hurts me! Look, if you'd rather not be here, as a part of this group of people who mutually shares an interest that you don't seem to share, then there's the door. Like Pavel before you, I don't get why you were ever here, nor do I understand what purpose it serves to fly the Anon flag here on this forum.kai wrote:Ahahahahaha, you dont even matter anymore.... ahhh, tragic...

and im not flying any "flags", i was just being a fucking geek with my geek ass humor... which you shit talked. viewing you as a friend i took it as friendly shit talk, and shit talked back.
so thanks for telling me exactly how you REALLY feel about me being here, duly fucking noted..... and wish granted. ive been wondering for awhile why i still come here myself, as none of you act like my friends or even act friendly.... or are even around anymore.

I personally suggest that you all shut the hell up and stop with all this damned internet drama. This is the Gaming section, not the drama section. Also, just because someone says the Anonymous chanty thing, doesn't automatically make them a bad person. Remember the old sticks and stones thing? I'd suggest that you refer to that from now on.

Everyone quit ousting people from the community. There's a clear and visible line between talking shit, fervently disagreeing with someone, and shouting at them to leave.
The first two are fully acceptable. As has been the practice since day one, I've bitched and moaned about people and behaviors I didn't like, countless times. I've systematically victimized myself to try to make a point. I have led secret and surreptitious campaigns against folks that I didn't like and amassed armies of the willing to help support my ridiculous claims. But we admins shouldn't spook people out of here. This is the kind of behavior we're better than. I don't care who it is, we're not doing it. If you don't like some behavior or you wanna complain about some group or affiliation someone has, there's a thousand towerposts we could provide links to. And there's a thousand ways to socially engineer a solution with out being
Let's not be bullies.
And I'm not saying this because it's kai, and I find him the most average person ever, and therefore innately likable. I'd say this same shit in defense of anyone here, even people that I hate, such as Tanner. You don't bully folks out of the community. And, as much as it sucks, we'd all have an easier time getting away with it if we didn't have clout here. But lord knows, there's shit I can't say because I am who I am. There's shit we can't do because we have that badge we wear. And, regardless of our true status on the forums or wherever, that old rusted badge still means I can't do certain shit. Even if I already turned in my gun, my cuffs, and bronzed my service boots.
kai, don't let one dude scare you off.

We're all capable of having a discussion about Anonymous and its impact (or probable total lack thereof) within the Internet at large, without attacking each other. I'm aware it's not an easy subject for most. I would agree 4chan (which was popular, like, in 2004) spelled the Internet's inevitable demise, the idea that there's some memetic group that now everyone figures they can help represent, which does nothing and serves no goals except to protect itself and its amotivation under the safe cloak of anonymity. This is, of course, an anonymity which gets shredded day by day, with each new social networking site that pops up and the fact that no matter what you do with your Internet connection, people know your identity.
It's an anonymity that actual hackers possess; and they don't care that every last Internet user with a well-publicized IP will step up and "I Am Spartacus" in front of them, in defense of their cause. You are not anonymous online. In fact, it's starting to become that you are more anonymous in person--where your actions cannot be documented and recorded indefinitely. Lord knows, when I needed space, I didn't hide out on the Internet. I hid out in real places, with real people. And no one knew where I was, because I wasn't on 4chan. I was in someone's basement.
Anonymous is a powerless entity, formed by individuals with Facebook accounts and MySpace pages and whatever-the-hell kids are using these days (I'm still 31, by the way, so I can talk this way). And the real movers and shakers are glad to have a patsy, I'm sure.
(Stay on topic, for fucks' sake.)
