In what way is there an issue of balance? As in, too strict and serious, or not strict/serious enough? In my opinion, everything in Debate seems to be working pretty well. I mean, the topics flow more like serious but informal discussions, which I think is far better and more enjoyable than having some sort of structured "statement, rebuttal, etc.", formalized debate.
Also, a package could be interesting, as long as it doesn't come out like a mediocre music album: a few hits here and there, but overall bland. If they're all topics of interest, it'll work out, but you'd have to be careful there.
In short: everything's great, keep up the good work.

You're doing a mighty fine job Demonz.
A stimulus package is an interesting idea, I really think you should go ahead with that.

Debate is something not all people can do.

I don't see why you take your forum so seriously. Snuggletummy's has just as many posts, smartalco's has more, and they doesn't sweat the small stuff.
You won't think about how lenient you are when you're not trying to apply the rules to every situation. When I open my browser and I'm not thinking about the rules, it's amazing how much more I can get done with so very little effort and pissed-off dudes.

He is a moderator.
He has responsibilities to do, and a forum to run, leave him alone.
I wanted to say that, but Dave is right.
I don't see what you are thinking while you are saying that, DLB.

And if so, how?
I've been thinking about this on and off for a while, now. My feeling is that there's an issue here in balancing serious discourse with fun, and a similar issue in the strictness vs. lenience of the rules and their implementations. Maybe I'm making a big deal out of this when I shouldn't, and maybe others feel differently about the forum. Since it's the season of yearly performance reviews for the whole board, I thought now would be an appropriate time to make a topic.
Also, third question: What should I be doing differently to make the forum run smoother? I've been thinking about making a debate forum stimulus package, where I just make a shitload of topics to generate some new interest... but I get the feeling that people are stimulated enough, what with the economy and all.
With the summer really opening up for me, I'm hoping to be able to devote more time and energy to the forum than previously. With that in mind, suggest away.
I see that you want to be a good moderator, and run your forums smoothly, but that's just
overreacting.
Just let the forum run the way it is.
